Cold Weather on the Way

According to www.tormenta.net, a weather information source from Puerto Rico, a weather front of intense cold is headed our way from Florida. Current forecasts seem to indicate it will arrive tomorrow night and stall over the Dominican Republic.

I'm already using my light flannel blanket; may have to have a heavier ready for tomorrow night.

Hey, Ken. I've been watching the weather in DR for 2 weeks now. Looks almost like last year's December weather. Rainy, cloudy, and on the cool side.

I remember we were really looking forward to the pool, and couldn't stand getting in until the last week we were there. And even then, it was too cool for me.

So..... I talked and begged for Doug to buy a solar pool cover before we come down in a few weeks. Of course, it won't help on cloudy days, but I'm betting we'll get more pool time with the cover.

Hey JanH, good to hear from you and yes, the pool water gets a little too cold for me as well. I guess I've become "Caribbeanized". Some years ago, back in my home country, we used a solar pool cover and if I remember correctly, the water was 5 or so degrees warmer generally - just enough to make a difference. Perhaps they've even improved the technology for these pool covers by now.

It felt chilly enough last night so that we had to bring out a summer blanket - it felt good for a change to snuggle in a blanket.

Editing to add - JanH, check out Peter's weather report from Cabarete beach this morning - It was quite a wet and chilly night out there.

Not Good News

Wll last night we had the Math Department Christmas Party at the Hovel..A massive attendance that surprised the heck outta me, especially since it had been raining all day.

And me with the two nice Canadians here visiting!.. I think they experienced a bit of "culture shock" at the gathering. Half a dozen people came by and said: "Oh you're from Vancouver? I've been there many times!" Or "Yes, I did my Doctorate there at UBC!" Jaws were on the floor.

Certainly not your "average" crowd of coastal areas denizens...

Hope thie cold front moves on, except it does make for wonderful "cuddling" weather, huh Jan??

Can't say I'm glad I'm not there so as to miss the "cold" spell!!!!

I'm thinking it's a lot colder here in Canada than it will get there however if I was still there I might finally have had the chance to use the "heater" I have sitting unused - bran' spanking new - in my bedroom closet.
Hasn't been "ccool" enough to use it since I brought it down!!

Gotten admit the 0C/32F reception we got at home was a lot better than the -20C we were expecting but I'd much rather be sitting in Juan Dolio tonight than here at home with my wool socks on!!
Only thing that makes it worthwhile was the look on my grandsons' faces when they saw us this morning! And of course the extra long cuddles this evening. Amazing how such small bodies can radiate so much warmth!!

Enjoy the cool weather while you can.....I'm sure it'll be sweltering hot by the time I get back in January!

The weather system that has been responsible for the heavy rain of the past few days is still stalled over the DR, according to Puerto Rico forecasters, but the winds are expected to shift to the northeast. The expectation is that though showers are still likely, they will be more sporadic.

Actually it is not that unusual for College Professors to have a Doctorate. In my condo when the members of the BoD get pissy with each other HB they sign their names with the initials after and I will wager that the percentage is way higher than at the party you attended even though it is more expected at a party for higher education than at a condo complex in Sosua.
