Does anyone know how much Bell Canada charges per minute for a collect call from Pto Pta to TO?

Thanks!

Hi Deb!

I used to pay $1.79 a minute for a collect call from Santo Domingo to Montreal but then I switched to Sprint Canada whom charged about $1.30 a minute. Then when I moved out from my parents' place in July I was contacted by Bell and they asked me why I wasn't with them and I told them they were too expensive. At that point, they informed me that if I went back with them, they would charge me $0.79 a minute for a direct call from Montreal to DR and $1.22 for a collect call from DR to Montreal.

I suggest you shop around and find the best co.

Good luck,
Katia

Thanks Katia :)

I called Bell and it's $8.50 for the first minute and $1.49 for every minute thereafter. Can you believe that?

Do you know if pre-paid calling cards from Canada work in DR?

You are right about collect calls being $8.50 for the first minute and $1.49 for every minute thereafter; you should perhaps an Ola or Ci Ci card and call from Toronto to POP - you get about an hour for only $5! NO, the prepaid cards you buy in Canada do not work for someone in POP calling Canada.

Prepaid calling cards do work in DR but personally, I have had problems with these in the past.

See www.BocaChicaBeach.net/staying_in_touch.html for the best calling card rates (as low as 2 cents/min. to the DR with connect fee).

Whether or not a card works also from the DR depends on the specific card. Keep in mind that calling from the DR will in general run at least double the cost of initiating the call from the USA or Canada. If you plan on making lots of calls from the DR to internation destinations, it pays to subscribe to a callback service.

When you sign up, you tell them what the call back number will be. You call an international number from the phone that has the "callback" number and let the phone ring once. After you hang up, you will receive a call at the "callback" number within a minute. When you answer, there will be a dial tone, from which you can then place your call at low rates and no charge on your phone bill.

Telegroup offers this at about US$0.29/min from the DR to the USA and US$0.32/min from the DR to Canada, billed in 6 second increments, 30 second minimum, no connect fee. See www.telegroup.com for info in subscribing to a callback service.

If a friend is calling you from the DR get them a CALL ME CARD from bell. They can only call your house and Bell gives you a 40% discount.

The only phone card which I know works (for sure) from the DR is the TRAVEL card issued by Goldline. You can purchase it at any distributor in Toronto selling OLA cards, etc. Make sure you obtain a brochure which will provide you with the 1-888 # to call from the DR.

Yes Helen, has the correct one I have been told that they only sell it at a dble dble pizza store, however I have used the callling cards from tricom and codetel. A 145Rd gives you 15 minutes. I believe they start from 45 peso and up
