DR TV continues to grow and evolve. Colombia Alcántara wasn't born intto a rich family and on top of that a woman in a country rife with machismo. Yesterday, José Peguero showed a "tour" through her new TV studios in Unicentro Plaza in the geographic heart of Santo Domingo. She says to create the studio took more than US$1 million, much of it through loans. In order for banks to lend that much money to anyone, they need to have nice finances and a very good business plan. Her major money producing began once she created her Youtube, Instagram and Facebook pages (I think she is also in Twitter.) After a meme about her went viral, all her social media pages have produced her some very good money. She even lives in a nice place in Piantini. Most of the audience to all her social media pages are Dominicans living in the country and abroad.

Now the programming of Altanto TV is going to be in several Dominican TV channels. To think that started more as a hobby. lol

Ivan Yael is the Vice President of AltantoTV. He studied television and movie productions at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, NV, USA and has been applying his acquired specialty in the DR. I bet he had a lot of influence in the creation of this TV studios.

Taking into account the differences, this reminds me of the MTV studios or where Good Morning America is made in NYC. I wonder if that was the inspiration for creating this.

Btw, ahe is not renting the place, she bought it and then convert it to the TV studios it's now. State of the arts studios. Have nothing to envy some of the top TV studios in the USA/Canada/Europe.

I'm amazed I have never heard of her.

She does something that many Dominicans do - addressing persons by their last name. Drives me up a wall at times.

For example, at the beginning of the video, she calls Jose "Peguero" instead of Jose.

My father always called persons Mr. or Mrs. if he was using their last name.

A pet peeve of mine too. One of my sisters-in-law calls her husband by his surname sometimes ???????

I’ll add calling people by nationality instead of name. “Cubano! Mexicano!!, etc”. Of course I hear Dominicans doing that more in the USA. It was years before I learned our mechanic’s real name.

My MIL used to call my FIL by his last name when she was upset with him. My spouse has a cousin that after all these years I still do not know his "real" name.

Not limited to Dominicans alone; At boarding school in the UK, we used last names only..... first names were seen as signs of disrespect or overfamiliarity. Even now, my best friend from school and I are last names only...

In my interactions with Dominican friends, we mutually use "Mr." before first names.....overfamiliarity can diminish the quality of conversations and interactions in the DR.

Last name only seems to be the " not so formal but respectful " option in the DR . Respect, as they say, is a boomerang that returns to you.

And oh ....kudos to her for pursuing her goals and getting her new TV studios . True talent and ambition no longer wait for opportunities from large corporations these days...
