President Luis Abinader cut the ribbon to mark the start of construction of the power generation complex that will fuel the Manzanillo Mega Port facilities in the province of Montecristi in the northwestern corner of the Dominican Republic.
The bay at Manzanillo is one of the deepest and safest anchorages in the Caribbean, and it is expected that the container facilities will become a major logistic hub in the near future.
The investment required is close to the US$2.9 billion mark, but the impact of the project far outweighs the costs. Industry, tourism, and logistics will play key roles in the future of the area, all the while conforming to environmental controls and considerations.
