Very interesting, I've never heard of it. My mom always added a couple of bay leaves to any gassy or acidic foods (tomato sauce, for example). Do they sell bay leaves in DR? I've always found it odd that Dominicans call basil "laurel" when that should be bay leaves.

If you cook them "DRY", you have to use a pressure cooker to get soft beans.
