The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #294 reports 1,115 new PCR cases for the Wednesday, 6 January 2021 deadline. The 7-day nationwide average for PCR confirmed cases is 879, down from the previous week.
Labs carried out a low 3,568 first tests, slightly above the already low 14-day average that is 3,372. Public Health Deputy Minister Ivelisse Acosta has explained that several private labs were closed over the holidays. The country can process 10,000 PCR tests a day. The previous 14-day average was 4,929.
The 4-week positivity rate is 18.45%, continuing the upward trend. The 24-hour positivity for the day is 31.25%, up from the previous day. The number of reported active cases is now 39,483, up from the previous day.
