This one is for actual Dominicans and residents, and please excuse my ignorance of the subject in advance.....Does the D.R. have a childhood vaccination program similar to the U.S. and/or Europe? What is the perception of vaccinations by Dominicans? Feel free to differentiate by class. Do they trust them?
yes.

HA, HA, HA, HA.
Could you give us a short version of your training in virology or is this a thing you just thunk up using your common sense?
You probably do not read much but look it up.
Asymptomatic spread of CV19 is a medical fact.
What on earth is "fear porn".
A video of you having sex with someone you are afraid of is my wild guess.
You are immensely entertaining and will find a home here on dr1.

Talking about Fear Porn, Papillomavirus comes to mind (hpv), the most common STI. Another virus transmitted (albeit sexually) by someone asymptomatic :D

Back to regular Porn :devilish:

According to the WHO most covid is spread by symptomatic people, not asymptomatic so I guess it depends on where you get your facts. https://time.com/5850256/who-asymptomatic-spread/
Seems to me the " facts" are not set in stone yet, too much unknown about the virus.

You must have missed First virus in the history of the world where 'asymptomatic' people spread it - this simply isn't how a virus works.

So, there is a possibility that COVID-19 is spread by asymptomatic people, the proportion of it, we don't know...yet.

There certainly are facts on which we can rely about the ways in which CV19 is spread.
What is known is what epidemiologists have learned from their experiences and study of the virus around the world.
They have seen what has worked in reducing community spread and what has failed in countries from the wide variety of responses.
"Most" is not my word in describing ways in which CV19 is spread.

Hanging around runny nosed children does not boost Bob Saunders immune system
and anyone with a smidgen of education and passed biology in college would know that fact.
Bob ought to know from years of hanging around a school that first year teachers suffer from a plethora of illnesses due to their exposure to the students.
You got a sheepskin on the wall Bob?
You pass college biology?
Maybe you just forgot or refused to believe the "facts" that are easily available from the expert doctors who have spent their lives studying virus spread.
There are a great deal of facts set in stone and we are learning more every day.
Just pay attention, could save your life.

Bollocks. Colombia has had an incredibly rigid lockdown and the virus is raging through the population. Allegedly.
Meanwhile, in Africa, where people are just living their best life, sharing germs like it's going out of style, things are going great!

I am not a virus denier. My point is that collapsing the world economy with these RIDICULOUS lockdowns is not the answer.

It may be helpful if you inform the Mayo Clinic that their information is Bollocks.
Surely they will edit their faulty info.

AS you veer of topic with Columbia but still on topic with CV19
The moderators may forgive you?

It may be a tad difficult for you and I to determine how many masks were worn however,

Drug cartels and rebel groups are imposing their own bloody coronavirus lockdowns across Colombia – and killing those who do not obey, according to a new report by Human Rights Watch (HRW).

At least eight civilians have been murdered by the armed groups, some of them holdovers from Colombia’s half-century civil war, which are using Whatsapp chats and pamphlets to warn citizens of the lockdowns in the rural areas where they operate.

Across the country, violent gangs are stopping people from leaving their homes at all, even when sick, according to humanitarian workers cited in the report. In two provinces, Cauca and Guaviare, armed groups have torched the motorcycles of those of those who ignored their restrictions.

First virus in the history of the world where 'asymptomatic' people spread it -
I was just reading an excelent article explaing why this virus is spreading so relentlessly: exactely because it is the first virus in the world spreading asymptomatic.

Thats exactely the point. Virus normally dont do that and therefore this virus is so dangerous. The conclusion its no virus is wrong, its a virus but a more dangerous one then those before.

Not sure if it is evidence but you are greater than 4 times more likely to die from covid in New Jersey than in Texas. They have about the same number of cases per million but the deaths per million are 4x in NJ.
Any number of Innocent reasons like other age structures or failure to ajust for the month between beeing infected and death. You have to take the number of infections a month ago and the death now. Todays infections are next month death. If you take todays infections at a time of increase it looks like less deadly but its just a failure to adjust the number.

Siemens just approved by FDA for it's new blood anti body test that measures the amount of blood protein anti bodies present.
Old test only determined the presence.
Good news as a tool to determine a vaccines effectiveness.
Modern medicine making solid progress.

Other benefit we can expect is that world wide we will be better prepared for the next pandemic using lessons learned from CV19.

For the same reason, it has been discussed in many countries that kids going to school and possibly carrying the virus might not be dangerous to the kids themselves, but they can easily take the virus to home, to their parents or grandparents... They can transmit just like adults, but don't (always) get sick as adults may get...

As a general point, I really don't care what everyone thinks of any safety measure, we have a family with small kids and definitely are taking all safety precautions possible... I don't understand the reactions (not just in the DR, but outside as well) where people have a huge issue wearing a mask... That certainly does not inconvenience me at all... I have read that some people react as if they were forced to do something really bad...

The only way such a contagious disease can be controlled is via herd immunity. At least there is some hope that is possible via T-cell immunity.
At least there is hope a vaccine might be somewhat effective.

All of the social distancing and attempts in place for now have demonstrated two things: We can keep this virus going for many months, probably for years under the current conditions. People will only tolerate social distancing for a finite period of time.

I know of a family where one of the parents has underlying conditions. They are very worried about this. They are considering having to isolate either the children themselves or the vulnerable parent within the household if they go back to school. Even though this would be highly impractical their house is big enough, with separate bathrooms. Imagine the risk for most families who live in small overcrowded dwellings.

The fear of the unknown is greater than the fear of the known.
