TravelHippo,

Generally outbound scheduled flights from the DR will probably take place as scheduled for at least the the next week or two providing no other substantive isolation measures are announced. As always, logon to the airline's website to check the schedule and to look for any announcements that may upset the apple cart. It probably isn't safe to say that anything is guaranteed these days and any guarantees given seem to be changing frequently.

For Canadians who cannot get back to Canada any other way, there is a link on the Foreign Affairs website to get on the list of people wishing to be repatriated.

Didn't they cancel all outbound flights when they closed the border to Europeans ? I could be wrong but I believe only repatriation flights will be allowed after Thursday.
That is why so many end up being stuck overseas because the flights on the last days were just full.

Best to stay close to home for the next couple of days and let the masses who haven't yet done so run around scavenging for the necessities. It's never a bad idea to have more than one propane tank. Just lock them up to something and don't store in an enclosed space.

An approved container of gasoline is not a bad idea either for those times when you are low and the lines are too long or there isn't any...

I had the chance of returning to Canada and abandoning family here.
People first ..... hate flying at best of times.
Every time and I mean every time I have flown commercial air I have had a resultant respiratory infection....
Just getting over the last one brewed in Nova Scotia
So we are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.
I prefer it here because the air is fresh off the sea and the climate agreeable for breathing.
Having said that, I am prepared for whatever.

I love this country and the people who own it..... they have never let me down and I shall do likewise.
My focus, without exempting the CV-19, is which cabinet in my kitchen to do next in my renovation project.
Not permitted to wander about in Luperon ...no worries I only go to Wendys Bar and Grille to converse with EX-pats here visiting on yachts... now that is closed for the interim . The guy running the place is 81 and a good friend.
We now meet on Whats App...... He is from Maine and has a tremendous positive attitude; and has lived here for past 20 years.
Luperon Gringo .... how are you doing?
We do not hear from you.
Are you OK.
THis is the only way I can contact him.

It just happened , act of kindness from a Dominican whom I helped two years ago.
She brought a container of soup for me and the FIL who also has a respiratory illness.

Just wanted us to know they are thinking about us having been confined to home.
Gotta love it!
The old say in of ''is the glass half full or half empty''.
I have actually solved that riddle. As have many others.

OH Ship , there were two chicken feet in the soup...... new experience coming up!
Apparently it is to get the gelatin to thicken the soup.

Kindness never the less

So, as of Thursday the borders of the DR are closed to ALL for 15 days? Is this correct? So, NO flights from NA will be allowed to land?

Yes 100% right, unemployment is going to shoot up and so will crime rates. Dominican businesses are generally running in such a precarious financial position that they won't be able to afford even 15 days of zero revenue, so goodbye staff. Especially in tourism, which is already heading into low season in a few weeks time.

This is the time for business owners to step up
Of course having to close for 15 days is not ideal. But these are the times when you make or break your reputation as a business owner in small communities .

At Qlindo Store , we have 9 employees at our 3 locations in Sosua and Puerto Plata
We will pay full wages yo our employees for the 15 days and
we will continue to pay for their health insurance .

Exactly the question. That is why I wanted to keep this topic separate from the general chatter about the virus and chicken feet. The flight schedules are a specific topic apart from all the conversation and speculation in this bigger discussion.

There’s a thread in the Airline Info forum

From the Danilo's speech last night:

First, I will be sending the request for a national emergency declaration to Congress tomorrow and we trust its prompt approval.

We have also decided to close the country's borders by land, sea and air, for the next 15 days.

This measure and the next ones that I will announce will take effect at 6 in the morning on Thursday 19.

From that moment, only the entry of ferry planes will be allowed for the departure of foreign citizens who want to return to their countries and the arrival of planes, cargo ships and fuels to guarantee supplies to the population.

Sorry if this has been confirmed but I don’t think it has been 100%. Are outbound flights still going after the border closure takes effect on Thursday morning? I have 5 Canadian teachers with flights to Canada on Friday and Saturday... so just trying to get a sure answer on whether or not those flights will still be going by Friday. Thanks to anyone who has a pretty certain answer so I can pass it on to them.

The Dominican government is making exceptional cases for those Canadians wishing to leave. Incentive packages are being developed.

In addition Danilo is offering RD10.000 to every Dominican because of the virus, here's the link for the application:
