I wish that that applied in Cabarete. The other evening, during curfew hours, there was a party in Barrio Blanco with music so loud that in nearby ProCab it was impossible to hear the TV. Luckily it ended before my bed-time, but I doubt it was due to any police action. They have their reasons for not getting involved in that barrio.
Well the DNCD run that part of town

Exactly ,, the stats are meaningless .... absolutely meaningless, at this point .. not until we get to 100% of the Population TESTED, for the Virus, and for Antibodies ( which means you HAD it , and perhaps did not even know it )
There are so many moving parts to this , and each Geographical area is at a DIFFERENT STAGE of this Spread , which is Global . that the stats are not even a SNAPSHOT picture in time .
Anyone who tells you they have special STATS which PROVE something, or can predict #s in the future , is either a Liar, has an Agenda, or a complete Idiot ..
The stats are meaningless as they are shown by the DR press: the absolute numbers.
To an extent, you can get a picture of the situation by comparing the number of yesterday's dead with that of two days ago and the previous days. This will show you the trend.
Similar comparison (graph) of new cases would be less reliable, because the Ministerio de Salud does not publish the ratio of the day's new cases against the number of persons tested. In other words, if on a given day they don't conduct testing the number of new cases will be zero.
To sum it up: they have created a reporting system, allowing them to tell white lies to the population (even assuming the absolute number are true)

No doubt something clearly went wrong in New York ..look At Ontario bordering New York with almost double the population and how our closing down kept our hospitals from being overwhelmed and we went down to lowest numbers in 6 weeks and highest amount of testing going on .. it works to keep everything from going into total overloads in Hospitals and keep death count down! When this is over there will be enough arm chair quarterbacking to Fiquire out what really went wrong where..
One important step in addition to mass testing is contact tracing and testing, checking and Isolation or quarantine of those contacts. We have not done this in USA. South Korea and other nations who have done that are seeing a decline in New cases. Unless there is adequate tests available, this will not help general population. Of course there seems to be no shortage of tests in white house. They are testing people close to the President and Vice President daily. Everyone is now being tested. There seems to be total disregard of life including lives of So called Essential workers. Specially the Medical workers and now the meat cutters. They are are dispensable.

Most countries that are opening are seeing an uptick. All over most news outlets.

There will never be adequate testing let alone tracing every contact. People are"dreaming in technicolor" to suggest it is even possible in the DR (or the US). Even the tests that are being done are reporting enough problems that they are questionable. It appears this disease will be over when it's over. Even those in the whitehouse are catching it. Almost an entire group of local politicians in the DR tested positive.

The worst is behind us. The panacea has been worse than the illness itself. No thousands of deaths. No corpses piling in the streets. No rioting. No looting. Only people who want to go back to work, and provide for their families.
IN MY OPINION, it is still not time to open up the borders to foreign travelers though.

There will be upticks in number of people with the virus, as more people are being tested. It's like you finally know who has the antibodies, many with no issues, but it does not necessarily mean there are more seriously ill.

We can wrap ourselves in a Linus blankets and lay in a big feather bed until there is a tested vaccine, and then you can be the first in line, not me. Of course there would be no world to go back to if we do that.

But I think those who really worry should indeed do just that, sequester themselves in their houses for another year - it is you option, but of course unemployment will run out, your job will be taken by another willing to work, but you will be protected from catching the virus....oh wait you have to go out to buy groceries and soon people won't be wearing masks. What to do ?......Oh the humanity

The sudden spike could be due to testing a certain town never tested before, administrative/accounting changes, or a certain group like health workers in a hospital tested. I think you have to go by the week, not a day. We will see.

With all the focus and attention on Covid-19, what I do find to be of a major concern is all the persons who have not been in touch with their individual medical professionals regarding OTHER underlying ailments or illnesses which they may be in the beginning or moderate stages of.
Early detection is almost always helpful, and these ailments could only be growing worse day by day if undetected, or not monitored properly.

Part of the problem is access. example Appointment with Cardiologist for 2nd week of April. Contacted the office who said they were closed would let me know when rescheduled! this included laps, if emergency go to the hospital. so in most cases not possible to contact you medical professional except for emergency. Who wants to go to the hospital now for a checkup??

This is all part of what will become the new normalcy. We all should have a direct telephone, email address with our doctors. My sister, who lives in Rome, Italy, was always in touch with her doctor. If she got sick, she could contact that person via telephone or email, and not risk going to a hospital. We will now all have to have these contacts.

The problem for the doctors is that interested parties have put an impediment to doctors offering paid online consultations. I was told that the Medical Association (Colegio Medico Dominicano) was prompt to tell all its affiliates "no" to offering these. Was told medical societies also mailed their members with a similar message. That is the old normalcy. Maybe these people will come to their senses.

My husband has been seeing a specialist for a non-Covid-related problem over the last couple of weeks and has received excellent treatment. However, I've missed routine check-ups for my ongoing condition because it involves going to a lab for tests and an overnight trip to SD. I plan to call my specialist to see what he advises. It's disappointing, but not surprising, that doctors like him have not taken it upon themselves to contact their patients to check up on them.

If it's really urgent people will go to their doctor/to emergencies, while other, more routine stuff can wait.

We will see if the Senators and Deputies grant an extension of emergency powers, and for how long, to the president in the next day or two.

So much for opening things up this week...

Altruism has been pushed to its limits.

Will you be organizing the collection of Crocs to burn from the "Everything __________" crowd?
I can see it now.....
As Crocs burn, and dentures fly, windeguy bangs away on his Yamaha piano keyboard, from a safe distance of course.
