Corpus Christi long weekend coming up

This Thursday, 19 June 2025 is a national holiday in the Dominican Republic. Given that it falls on a Thursday, many who can will turn it into a long weekend especially for domestic tourism. Take special care when driving to and from the urban centers on Sunday to avoid delays due to the extra traffic.

The 19th of June will commemorate the Roman Catholic Church Corpus Christi Day. The feast commemorates the Last Supper and emphasizes the belief that the consecrated bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. The feast originated in the 13th century, largely due to the efforts of Saint Juliana of Liège, who had visions related to the Eucharist.

As with most Catholic religious dates in the Dominican Republic, the celebration is not movable.
