The UASD doesn’t give an entry exam, so anyone with a high school diploma can go there. Graduating (especially within 4 years) is a different story, but starting is doable.

That means the really good students are surrounded by this example of fellow students.

I’m sure if what follows this Valentine’s Day is an outbreak of mono and gingivitis at the UASD, no one will know how that could possibly happen. It was simply bad luck.

This was probably after lunch time. I’m sure everyone has excellent mouth hygiene and brushed their teeth and used mouthwash after eating or, at the very least, used a toothpick.

Anyway, having fun between classes is important.
The only thing missing is bachata and dominoes. If you think this was nasty, the next booth over was the viral lick the toilet seat challenge!

I seriously doubt this. Also please direct your comments to Stock. Looks like he's considering offering up scholarship program to the needy (female only) much like John. I have no interest in any Dominican institution of education.
And as usual you're wrong with your snide comments. I am thinking of helping two kids. One female, yes, but the other is her twin brother.

If you have no interest in any Dominican institution of education, why are you adding your inane thoughts.

I am not sure who hijo is referring to regarding scholarships. I have never paid anyone’s education here. Maybe I should have. But I don’t see anything wrong with Dominican institutions of education. They study to live and work in the Dominican Republic.

I refer to you as Aarhus, btw. We have a member named John who helps put unfortunate kids through college!

Good for him. I am also John. No I didn’t do that but I did have a few employees who were studying so indirectly I did. I think UASD has both some of the smartest and the other end to. There are some smart kids from the barrio and that’s where they go.

Yes of course. Decently looking and decently dressed.
I have to agree. It's almost impossible to see an employed professional Dominican woman who is not smartly dressed. I don't think I've ever seen one who wasn't.

One of the few things I looked forward too when I used to visit offices in the city.

Especially gov't. offices.

I remember how the dgii offices suddenly changed from being a dump and then to modernized with new equipment and smartly dressed women in high heels walking around the offices.

There's a strict dress code on govt offices and most companies have a coordinated outfit they must wear. You give HR the measurements and they procure your outfit. Why would someone be poorly dressed at work unless you're talking about a pica pollo cart on Callejon de LA Loma

That was truly gross. 🤮 They're obviously not buying into the fearmongering over the latest strain of covid.

Hello everyone, sorry to resurrect an old thread. I am thinking of putting my girlfriend through a course in INTEC, she says it will help her get a job in a bank or similar. The 1 year course is a specialization in business management. Is it actually useful for a job like that ? I don't mind the cost but I would prefer to spend it on a useful thing. Before any questions are asked - I will be paying directly to the uni and yes she works hard, has a bachelors degree already but wants to better herself and have more job prospects.

Thank you.

Yes. INTEC is one of top notch colleges in DR.
Actually, businesses like banks will notice graduates either from PUCMM, INTEC or APEC in terms of business administration.
Best of luck for your girl!

First, a reminder: A bachelors degree here is a High School Diploma.
Second: It's always nice to see somebody helping someone improving their education.
Third: The university cost is only a small part of things she'll need. Requests for other things like daily transport, books, clothes, food, weekly salon trips, school supplies, and manicures will soon follow.
Fourth: It isn't enough to get a job in a bank. A job in a bank goes to university graduates. A job as a cashier in a supermarket may be within reach.

@JD Jones, the ones that @DrNoob says is:

"The 1 year course is a specialization in business management."

Which translates as a Diplomado / Educacion Permanente from INTEC instead of a full career title.

That's a cheaper model that's been implementing for a while in private colleges to attract more talent and have a career title to get faster access to enty level jobs (administration as he says) at corporations or any mid size company.

Hope it helps!

Thank you! Correct on all counts. All education is useful. I have helped many receive an education over the years and continue to do so.

Thank you. I don't know what a Licenciada(o) but I had assumed it meant an undergraduate degree. This would be in addition to that. Good point on the books/school supplies, I will have to plan for that. Any idea on those costs ? The books might be bigger of the two.

You are right on the the clothes, salon trips and manicures but they are already ongoing😂

Yes, Many Economists, doctors....etc are graduates of UASD. My wife has a degree in Statistics from UASD.
The UASD has a lot of great programs. Many of their grads have gone on to big things. That said, the Dominicans tend to incorrectly place a rigid value in a degree. For example, you'll never be a business great with a BS in business administration. You can't teach that. Successful business owners you cannot fool with creative accounting. You can't sell them some CRM software they don't need. You cant "learn" one of the most unspoken concepts in business, which is: in a world where we all sell the same widgets why do business with John Doe? And this is really simple - because they like doing business with John. You can have a "degree" in anything and be an utter failure because you simply can't work with people, let alone lead. Look at the practice of medicine in the DR. Most docs have horrific bedside manners. It is a very antiquated practice of medicine, nothing holistic about it at all. They are also horrible businessmen by nature. Only few make it to greatness, and it's clearly not because of great med school school programs, fellowships or internships. Anyone with a liceo diploma and a cédula can attend med school. Great doctors are brilliant at solving complex puzzles. You can't teach that. You need to spot that talent and recruit it. These are just a few examples. Most great economists are mathematicians with superior business skills. In the US we see what a bachelor's degree in economics from Boston College gets you... a bartender!
