They do not. They absolutely do not. The majority of kids use some sort of Chinese ZTE or a used Samsung. I guess you just woke up this morning and said "I'm going to just say something asinine".
You are right. The school knows that the kids have a gringo behind them, and I often have to pay for things other kids get free.
Also true. There's always an allotment of free uniforms, book bags and notebooks before classes commence... unless you're a gringo.
For once, a sensible post from you. I did buy everything at Sirena, partly because the prices are fixed and I don't have to pay "gringo price". However, I didn't buy everything as a package and shoes were not included. but other supplies like books, pens etc, were.
When my kids were in a known "colegio", the books alone were 10k per child (at the La Sirena mafia)
Look at what you originally wrote. You mentioned that parents are not the demographics thus my response saying that the parents have 30k cells and that's the truth. Instead of answering without reading properly and thinking that you are always right.....think twice and read properly (if you are capable)
We order directly from the publishers, get a 30 percent discount and pass most of that to the parents. Between 4000-7000 Pesos depending on the grade.
The parents also do not have these supposed 30k cell phones. I assume maybe you know of a few hookers and drug dealers that do, however. God bless sir!

That is quite the assumption. I know lots of Dominicans with cellphones bought on month plans that are more than 30,000 pesos for the phone. None of them are hookers or drug dealers. Most of our teachers have pretty decent cellphones.

Hey Bob, no offense bud but how the hell do you keep posting re your private colegio here when the demographic is public school? The general public school parent population, mostly single women, do not have iphone plans with a carrier. This demographic is mostly a 4 to 8k cell phone population. Notably ZTE and used Samsung. The whole conversation old chap was around the cost of public school útiles. As a certified researcher and trained observer, how can you be conflating these two distinct markets?
First assumption you made is not accurate. Lots of parents send their kids to public school for a variety of reasons, even those that can afford private schools. Perhaps in your ghetto they can only afford 4 k phones. Many of our clients send their kids to our school so they can learn to read and then send them to public schools to save money after they know their kid can read (spend it on a car or new cellphone) Lots of people here are farmers. They make more money than you think. Yes, lots of people have used cellphones, many a high-end phones brough or sent to them by relatives in the USA. My stepson gave me an iPhone 10 to give to my BIL.... etc. I know lots of public-school teachers and children. My wife has 11 brothers and sisters, most of them send their children to public schools. Most of them live in Santo Domingo, otherwise they would send their children to our school.
Yes, well, way back up I surely attested to Stock's cost summary re his public school kit purchases at La Sirena. These are sadly where we are at with cost of living, not just in DR. Before returning to NJ, I had resorted to ordering from Old Navy/Gap for kids clothing. It's basically what La Sirena charges for comparable clothing articles and the quality is much better. A run of the mill backpack at the Chinese 5 and dime may run 1000 pesos, but a decent one at Sirena could be 3 times that! Bob, however wants to direct all conversation around his private school, which was not the target market of this thread. He is obsessed with responding to my posts, most unhealthy IMO.
