Hello All,

This post has several purposes: 1. Raise a major question, 2. Provide some COVID-19 resources, including inoculations, 3. Provide some current information regarding recent COVID-19 inoculations.

Resources

In the U.S. -- cdc.gov

In the D.R. -- vacunate.gob.do

.pdf “Puestos de vacunacion contra COVID-19”
This useful .pdf lists ~ 100-200 vaccination sites in the D.R. The columns include: name of site, address, hours, and inoculations, either Sinovac or Pfizer. Unfortunately, I cannot find the download link but it was likely at the D.R. site.

yourlocalepidemiologist@substack.com

This free weekly or so newsletter to your inbox, written by an epidemiologist (Ph.D.) who consults for CDC, presents excellent scientific, evidence based summaries of notable pathogens and inoculation information. She goes out of her way to present ideas clearly, including penciling comments and clarifications on various CDC (or other) graphs.

Major Question

For those seeking the latest COVID-19 vaccination, is it or will it be available in the D.R. or must one leave the country? When I see the “Puestos” document and Sinovac, I would ask these questions: a. Is Sinovac limited to Delta and, if so, does it have any basis for recommendation? b. Expiration dates? c. Re: Pfizer, I would want to contact one of these sites and find out which variant the latest vaccine targets. That information is available, directly or indirectly, via the sticker that comes with the documentation. If I do go to one of these centers, I’ll report back. Or if you could do the same . . .

Some Current Information

In May, 2024, while in FL, I received Pfizer COMIRNATY 2023-2024, monovalent Omnicron sublineage XBB.1.5. This is the most recent COVID-19 vaccination with the exception of the one that is now imminent. The CDC website confirms that this inoculation belongs to the 2023-2024 vaccination year.
The newest and imminent inoculation belongs to the 2024-2025 vaccination year. Unfortunately, after searching the CDC website for 30 minutes, I could not find the latest sublineage target. I had to Google: FDA < EUA = KP.2 KP.2 is confirmed by the epidemiologist and she adds that Novavax targets JN.1, an older lineage. So, basically, the last: XBB.1.5; the newest: KP.2.

Oh my...Covid updates.
"Oh my!" as in "I'm surprised"? COVID-19 is endemic and still results in significant morbidity and mortality. So there shouldn't be any surprise and for those who choose to update with the latest inoculation, it's necessary to know the names of the offspring of Omnicron, their order in time, their virility, and which inoculations correspond to those variants. The intended audience for this post are those members who are serious about obtaining COVID-19 vaccinations.

But why are you bringing it up now and what is its relevance to the DR?
It's relevance to the D.R. is that COVID-19 is endemic in the D.R. and even though there is a robust selection of vaccinatlion sites, it is not clear if the Pfizer inoculations that are available correspond to the recent Omnicron sub-variants or not, because if they do not, it would be necessary to leave the country to obtain the most recent inoculation or even the inoculation of the 2023-2024 year.

I recommend that you get on the first possible plane and head home, where updated vaccines are available.

Based on what fact(s) that you have investigated? For example, the influenza vaccines are updated here.
You can investigate all you want! I'm deathly afraid of getting Covid. I've already got an appointment in FL set for next month. The newest vaccines are going to be released early next month!

None. I do not rely on the internet in matters regarding my health. I'm just not that smart. You posted a series of numbers and formulas that the avaerage person would not understand.Do you?? The source you cited means nothing.Ex: You do know he background of DR. Fauci do you not?

If you have an appt in Fla regarding the subject matter I commend you and at the same time I wonder why you need members of DR1 to respond to a very complex subject. You, and most of us have been around, and there is not doubt you know member by member's views on covid. We discussed it here for more than 2 years. Why the re-hash?

I have my opinions on all matters regarding my well being and none of those opinion are shaped by this forum board. Take DR1 FWIW...opinions. Differs from medical help.

There is no re-hash. The SARS-COV-B virus is endemic and continues to mutate, requiring a new innoculation on an annaul basis for the forseeable future. That is as true in the D.R. as it is in the U.S. Whether updated vaccines are or will be available in the D.R. is completely relevant

How complex is this: Is the COVID-19 2024-2025 inoculation available in the D.R. or not? And you need to know which variant that targets (it is KP.2) or you may be getting the wrong vaccination. And you need to know the most recently avalable one. It is XBB 1.5. This is not advanced information. These are just names of variants.

OP Opinion: (Attn: AlterEgo): In May, 2023, WHO declared an end to the COVID-19 pandemic. That was more than a year ago. Maybe it's time to archive this DR1 sub-forum. I was the one who suggested creating this sub-forum at the beginning of the pandemic.

For your consideration, I recommend in its place a new sub-forum titled "Health and Medicine." This could cover many areas such as: 1. health: gyms and spas, 2. medicine: a. medical tourism, b. questions on medical care here versus the possible necessity to return to one's home country, a question that many of us will be needing to evaluate as we age. I joined this forum 10 years ago when I was 61. I am now 71. There are many levels of medical care available in the D.R. It's a timely and critical topic for those of us who make the D.R. our home as well as for those who visit.

Any questions on vaccinations could be dealth with in such a sub-forum.
