What JEALOUS people back in the USA have options other then sitting around Puerto Plata doing nothing but playing dominos and making no bake cheesecake.

JMB, i am not going to lower myself to getting into an adolescent trade of insults with you.

sorry, pal, i HATE rice. and i never ever eat plato del dia. i'd rather have burger from BK.

Funny, thats one thing I don't miss.. Fast food like BK or Micky D's. I've grown to like the rice cooked by miesposa with guandules or white con frijoles. Especially with some salsa and hot sauce. Good stuff.

My BIL uses these red peppers just a little smaller than a marble to make a hot salsa and is hot even by Mexican standards. I love fast food especially hamburgers but they are absolutely dangerous to your long term health. So is Dominican food with its overuse of salt and oil.

I probably would not really enjoy most of the food from the DR if I was born here. I like spicy food, so I have to deal with it the best I can. The basic chicken and pork dishes are good, but who ever came up with the platnano dishes and thought they should be repeated more than once, that escapes me completely.

Variety is the spice of life and that apples to our current thread.

I grew up on Louisiana red beans and rice with fried chicken. Dominican food was a seamless transition for me.
I enjoy a variety in life too.

Bingo. I like being able to walk into Agora Mall food court, and go nuts trying to figure out what I want. I can do the Dominican place with their buffet setting of all types of Dominican food, various asian restaurants, Nathans, 3-4 pizza places, a bunch of hamburger joints, Mexican... even a steak house or two. Salad bars, ice cream..

The variety makes me happy. It wasn't that long ago there wasn't ANY variety to speak of.

And FWIW, this is the first time I've heard of Dave and Busters.

this is the first time you have heard of it, and Dominicans and others don?t miss it. most others have not, either, and life goes on.

to show that i am not totally detached from dominican reality today i had rice, beans and chicken. admittedly, it was black japonica rice, campbell beans and chicken breast in lemon and garlic sauce but the principle stands.

Its funny how non-Americans would trade the world for BK or MDs, incomprehensible and sibylline at best. BTW, please do not dare to call either a restaurant nevertheless food.

My "non American" won't eat any fast food. Even going out to a nice place is 50/50 whether she will eat her food or I will.

Sorry, not my non-American wife. She hates fast-food and isn't very fond of restaurants in general. She will eat pizza if there is nothing else available. She does like chicken fajitas.

i'm pretty sure that wishing is referring to non-american gringos, not dominicans. nearly every single dominican i know would choose la bandera over hamburguesa for lunch. dominicans are rather traditional. even when eating out they tend to drift towards certain dishes: pasta, pizza, chicken, tostones as a side.

btw, i just want to clear something up: even thou i like fast food in general i do not like american fast food places. but i dislike white rice even more.

Calm down Bob, I like you. Don't take the non-American to heart, it was just a a way to portray what DV8 just mentioned on her reply.

Used to eat fast food in Europe (especially Burger King). Once I moved to the US, the love was gone. All I have to do is scan the average size of customers eating and I lose my appetite ( I know it s vain but it s the truth, shopping at Lane Bryant would make me miserable).
I eat a burger in fancy burger places once in a while though.
