Supermercado OLe at Indepedencia is employing some mentally handicapped to bag grocerys. If there is something fragile, like glasses etc., the cashier backs them up.. I watched people paying them several times the amount that they would give to a "normal" person. Watching this gives me some hope and this Supermarket really deserves Recognition for this.

I don’t think these classes were free as an act of kindness to the deaf students (the fact the classes were targeted to them could had been a act of kindness.) I knew someone that would constantly take free courses from INFOTEP for the sake of it and she wasn’t handicapped in any way.

The overwhelming % of persons who take classes at INFOTEP are not handicapped.

This particular class is new in the Cibao region.

Bravo started first:

- Deaf inventory associates (the ones who organize the stock) are mostly deaf impaired
- Senior cashiers (instead of young ladies from other supermarkets)
- Deaf packers (I've seen it in Churchill and Santiago stores)

Yes. Infotep in the North region has more impact (due to industrialized workers and youngsters with kids who didn't finished highschool).

Also, two administrations ago, the Gov made a masterplan with Quisqueya Aprende, making INFOTEP the main institution to take care of community classes and sunday schools.

The one I knew had a university degree and took the courses to have something to do free of charge.
