Delta Air Lines Announces Expansion of New York Service

Delta Air Lines Announces Expansion of New York Service;

New Destinations, More Flights from John F. Kennedy International

Airline to invest more than $300 million in JFK terminal upgrades

NEW YORK, Jan. 28, 2004 -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) announced today it is improving the travel experience for New York passengers by expanding its presence in New York City, with enhancements to its service and its terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Delta?s new schedule:

? Increases the number of Delta?s daily departures from JFK

? Adds eight new destinations from New York-JFK

? Adds 14 additional frequencies in existing markets out of New York-JFK

? Better utilizes Delta?s assets at JFK (terminal and gate space)

Delta also announced a plan to invest approximately $300 million in its terminal at New York-JFK to upgrade systems and processes ?behind the scenes? which will enhance the customer?s travel and airport experience.

?Whether they are traveling for business or pleasure, with our service from JFK and five other New York area airports, customers can easily and efficiently make travel arrangements to many domestic or international destinations with one phone call or with a visit to one Web site,? said Vicki Escarra, Delta?s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. ?New York is the world?s largest air travel market, and is a major focus of Delta?s growth plans.?

New destinations, more flights

Delta announced its New York-JFK plans through September, and said changes beyond September would be announced later this year. Through September, Delta will:

? Begin new service from New York-JFK to Denver, Colo., and San Juan, Puerto Rico, with 2 flights each on April 4; to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with two flights on June 1; and to San Diego, with 2 flights on July 1. Delta? low fare service, Song, also will begin service to Ft. Myers, Fla., with two flights on May 1.

? Offer additional service to four existing destinations from New York-JFK, including one additional flight each to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle starting April 4; one additional flight to Las Vegas starting June 1; and another single flight to San Francisco starting Sept. 1.

The Delta Connection also is introducing new and expanded service from New York-JFK. Delta Connection carrier Chautauqua will:

? Begin new service from New York-JFK to Savannah, Ga., on June 1 with two flights; and to Greensboro, N.C. and Charleston, S.C., on July 1 with two flights each. Chautauqua will operate these new flights with 50-seat regional jets (ERJ).

? Offer additional service to Cincinnati, Detroit, Norfolk, Raleigh-Durham, and St. Louis with a total of nine additional flight frequencies.

?This new service complements the service we offer from New York-LaGuardia, and allows our customers to choose the most convenient airport option for them,? said Escarra. ?In addition, the increased frequency of flights to five destinations we already serve truly enhances the service we offer in New York,? said Escarra.

As a result of its New York growth, Delta will recall approximately 200 flight attendants to be based in New York City, and a number of Airport Customer Service (ACS) employees throughout its system. Final details of the ACS recalls will be determined at a later date.

Facilities upgrades improve customer travel experience

Delta also announced a plan to invest approximately $300 million at New York-JFK over the next six years to upgrade systems and processes in terminals 2 and 3.

?New Yorkers may have to pardon our dust for awhile, but the improved travel experience will be well worth it,? said Escarra. ?Delta?s planned investment in our New York facilities is part of our ongoing desire to improve customer service everywhere we fly.?

Some planned enhancements ?behind the scenes? include upgrades to the terminal air conditioning system, improved baggage systems, and other infrastructure repairs and refurbishments. More noticeable improvements for the customer will be better directional signage, more visible and consistent Delta branding, the addition of bus connection to the new Air Train, road repair and more.

The timeline for the facility enhancements is still under development with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Two projects ? enhancements to the Terminal 3 check-in lobby and refurbishment of Terminal 2 restrooms ? are scheduled to be complete this spring.

Good news for travellers. Bad news for ASD and North American. American's fares will be reduced dramatically beginning June 1. Can ASD compete?

ASD can compete with DL, prices will be the same. It is not gonna be so easy for DL to survive on this market. AA will not allow them to conquer this market so easy, they have to make such an agressive promo campaign. DL is like CO, they are more oriented to transport passengers originated from USA, here it is not the same. AA has a list of travel agents here who like them, AA controls a lot here.

On the other hand all this statements about low fares, yes DL will offer limited seats for extremely cheap price, it is a good marketing strategy, but the main reason of DL's coming is not to downgrade airfares here, they are coming to make money, they don't care about passengers who wanna pay less. It is a big business.

They will start succesfully, high season will help them, but I don't think DL will stand with 2 daily flights in October.

Quien ha estado negociando en Santo Domingo con la gente de Delta? Quien son los que estaran representando a Delta en el pais?

No creo que los vuelos sean operados por Song. Es Delta-Delta.

this is definitely great news.

DL is in it to make money like any other airline. Competition is very good and they are reliable.

AZB, Santiago may be next for DL.

Santiago to ATL? that would be too easy for you my friend ;)
