Just my head takes a beating Cristo..... but it's a real battering
As I said, can't touch my skull w/o pain for 36 hrs after.

It's my liver I worry about... the horse sized acetaminophen pills chew it up.

The report indicates that I am too old to be a vaccine candidate

Pardon me while i go iron my long sleeved shirt and long pants....:glasses:

double knit pants with white belt, and calf high support socks

First time in my life I have ever been sick to the point where I thought I could really die from something like this.
Had it once in mosquito infested rice patty town south of Nagua in 2012. Second time was in Sosua 2013 almost
a year later to the same week. If given the opportunity I would try the vaccine.

Nearly killed me in Puerto Rico, fever then chills, headache and backache from hell. Getting out of bed to take a pee was about all the strength I had.
On the bright side it was a great weight loss plan

I had the misfortune to be afflicted on a travel day...

Didn't feel well in the AM... went back to bed\
Started my drive to POP for the EWR flight (4hrs)

Midflight... the fever hit
teeth chattering..... it goes sky high - 104F

I made it... only to have a 2 hr drive to PHL... luckily my wife was there to get me

10 days in bed... the Pedialyte, Ensure routine
after it all , my blood count was perfect

Going to a NoAmerican hospital would have been useless - IMO
I can just see them running to the library for a Tropical Diseases manual

hahaha

Mayo Clinic report on the drug in question.... it goes to 45 yrs old

Prevention
One dengue fever vaccine, Dengvaxia, is currently approved for use in those ages 9 to 45 who live in areas with a high incidence of dengue fever. The vaccine is given in three doses over the course of 12 months. Dengvaxia prevents dengue infections slightly more than half the time.

The vaccine is approved only for older children because younger vaccinated children appear to be at increased risk of severe dengue fever and hospitalization two years after receiving the vaccine.

The World Health Organization stresses that the vaccine is not an effective tool, on its own, to reduce dengue fever in areas where the illness is common. Controlling the mosquito population and human exposure is still the most critical part of prevention efforts.

I presume the age limit has to do with effectiveness. Mr AE’s last bout was terrible, and he’s one of the very unlucky ones who now has to take meds forever for a neurological issue it caused. Terrible disease

Had both Dengue and Malaria. No picnic. Malaria is the scarier of the two, without medicine, you die. But with Dengue, only a masochist would endure without meds. The pain is excruciating.

Will be interesting to see how the price change will be for a drug that will have such a high demand globally. Look at insulin and look how much the price has sky rocketed meaning that many low income families simply cannot afford it and are trying to decrease the recommended dosage which can lead to people dying. It is not only the pharmaceutical companies that are to blame, we all know how governments around the world have their hands in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies which in turn drives up the prices of insulin. Some States in the US are putting a cap on the amount a patient must pay per month in a step to reduce the costs for the patient but much more needs to be done. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, the price of Humalog, a popular brand of insulin increased by 1,157 percent in 20 years, from 1996 to 2017. Now, although there is no comparison of a patient needing insulin for the rest of their lives to a vaccine against dengue, the one thing similar is global demand. What worries me is that when you have corrupt governments around the globe working hand in hand with pharmaceutical companies the price of this vaccine will become extortionate, especially in under developed countries where dengue is much more prone....this will be interesting to follow.
