The Tax Agency (DGII) is giving taxpayers through Wednesday, 21 September 2022 to pay the Transfer of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS) tax due for August 2022. The taxes were due on Tuesday, 20 September 2022. The DGII announced on its Twitter feed that those paying on Wednesday will not have to pay the late penalty.
The extension is granted due to Hurricane Fiona. The Executive Branch had decreed on Sunday, 18 September 2022 that Monday, 19 September would be a non-working day due to the passage of Hurricane Fiona. Fiona would make landfall in the Dominican Republic eastern region around 3:30am on Monday and cause major damages nationwide. It left Dominican coasts around 2pm in the afternoon.
