Is DHL from Europe to Dominican Republic reliable? Is it safe to send a passport with them?
How long may it take?

I have found them as reliable as any. Takes 2 or more days, depending on price.

Are you sure?

Yes they are reliable. You ask them first, because in some countries they don't accept passports and some other documents to be sent with them to DR, as well as if you want to send a passport from DR to Europe, they don't let you.

If they can send it, make sure that the description in the waybill is 'Documents'. If you write "Passport" there, it may be detained by DR Customs.

I've received important documents in the past and even credit cards sent from my bank using DHL, from Sweden. It's reliable and fast, just takes around 3-4 business days. But in comparison to things from the US, it's VERY expensive. My parents sent like 2 documents in a folder and from Sweden at least it cost around 60 euros, I don't want to think how much it would cost to send something "heavier".

Yes, I have received credit cards from Latvia, documents from Russia and Turkey, about 70 to 80 dollars for their standard envelope.

I wouldn't be surprised. I haven't used FEDEX for a few years due to past problems while DHL always comes through on time. Maybe FEDEX saw the light and decided to let DLH handle their customs work.

Of course they are not.

I deal with DHL and UPS every few weeks. Fedex is completely different company, has no Connection to DHL, they use different deposits at AILA, have different staff, different everything. I know lots of people at DHL and UPS and have very good relations there. Fedex is useless and very difficult to work with here. And they like to get things lost.

Yes, Im sure, I have seen some of their pickups with Fedex and DHL.

Russia has its borders closed, so none of the airlines are selling tickets. or doing any flights.

I had business documents coming from Miami to Santo Domingo every week with Fedex during 4 years. Never a problem. According to the tracking info, it always came via Puerto Rico. Only once they put it by mistake on a plane from Puerto Rico to Santiago instead of Santo Domingo, so it came from Santiago on their truck, it caused one day delay, but it happened only once in 4 years.

Probably you have seen pickup trucks of some courier company that works with both of them, they usually put their logos on vehicles. They are totally different companies. I've been to their main offices here many times.

By the way, I used UPS a few times to send documents and small items like apartment keys from here to Turkey and Panama, it worked great. But once somebody sent documents from Russia to Santo Domingo with them, a package went to Dominica instead of Dominican Republic. The address was correct, but their employee put DM instead of DO as a country code. I noticed that when the package was on its way, so I had to spend some time on the phone with them and they finally re–routed it.
