I added 280 pesos/ $5.99
to a Dominican/ Altice prepaid number
a few minutes ago using www.recharge.com
zero problem.
You do realize that you can get 55.5 for your Dollars at most exchange houses. So instead of getting 333 pesos you got 280. A fee of 53 pesos or close to 20%. Post 20 is clearly the way to go on this topic..................

My postpaid plan with Claro costs me 513 pesos a month, with 100mb data. I don't use much data so that works for me. Claro has another postpaid plan for 645 pesos a month, with 2GB data. If I were ever to need more data, I could buy a paquete for a few hours or days. I think a lot of people use the prepaid method with "recargas" and "paquetes", but it's hard to say which method is better. When I had a prepaid number, I spent about 500 pesos every 6 weeks just to keep the number active.

Download Altice/Claro app, ask your GF for the 4 digit code connected to her phone number, that is used to use digital services, such as buying paqueticos (if she doesn't know, ask her to go to the nearest store of her service provider for help). Follow the instructions in the app to be able to connect the account, and then you can add minutes/paqueticos directly on her phone number without any 3rd party service provider and pay nothing extra.
I've never heard of this 4 digit number and have never needed it to buy paqueticos(?).

How do you pay for the minutes you would buy with the apps you mention?

The only way to compare this to Ding or Recharge is to know how much data/minute a call uses(?).

$5.99 is usually all I use in a month. I'm not going to lose any sleep over 53 pesos.

I'm beginning to wonder if some posters here with plans know that here, unlike in the states, it costs you nothing for someone to call you(?). You only pay for outgoing calls. That's why I only need about 250 pesos/mo. on my phone. I rarely have the need to call anyone while I'm out and about, but friends and contacts can call me and talk all they want.

NO country in Europe and most likely anywhere else in the World CHARGES for incoming cell calls. In fact in the DR is ILLEGAL...............

I'm in Jacksonville, FL at the moment.
Thanks but I've no problem paying the extra buck while outside the DR to keep the number active. My other phone is on a contract so that gets paid once a month along with my internet.
