IP address question

"I wonder if that's due to the IP address he's accessing through the net? "

Why is he using the net?
I've had Dish for 4+ years here on the North Coast, with no problem.
I get my schedule downloaded directly to the box via the dish.
Am I missing something?

My "friend" is also having a problem with his FTA receiver and 6' dish with 110 and 119.

The freezes are coming fast and furious. It will freeze for 30 seconds, then resume for 15 seconds, then freezes for 30 seconds, resumes for 15.

Kinda hard to watch TV like that.

Yes, the other guy is using an FTA reveiver, not getting his service from Dish Network.

Correct. He has a FTA box connected to his modem. Every time it freezes, the box gets a signal from the internet to resume programming.

The code words are probably not being sent fast enough by the IKS provider, hence the freezing.

Right.

I'm guessing there's a lot of providers, some faster than others. It easy to imagine that one may be getting their codes from another, who gets it from another, etc, which makes the response a little slower.

It should be virtually undetectable, since the original signal comes from a legal box that updates immediately.

Ya my FTA box in the states doesn't have any problems like that. Check out an FTA forum, those guys are always on top of this kind of stuff.

So I called Dishnetwork today about changing my 'service address' into my company name (so that I can produce utility bills to get my 2nd box unblocked due to the audit), turns out I would have to get a 'commercial account' since the address is an office. They do not have 'programming packages' for 'commercial accounts' to I would have to get all my channels a-la-carte, meaning they will be bending me over and charging me by the channel.

So I will have to go to plan C, which is to 'sell' the receivers to my friend in Miami and use his utility bills. I wonder what they will throw at me now, I probably have to stop the programming alltogether and start a new account.

Well the installation will already 'be done.' I got utility bills and a bill of sale for the 'buyer.' I got a skype phone number in that area code, so when I call as 'the buyer' it will show up as a number from the area code of the 'buyer.' I think I got all my bases covered.....lol.

btw, does anybody know how to get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX in HD, on 110, 119, and 72.7 ?
I also am trying to sort out what can be seen in HD here on the North Coast. I recently bought a flat-screen TV and had a local guy hook me up for HD. Upon my return yesterday, I was presented with a loss of signal error message on my Dish DVR. I climbed on my roof to discover that I was still had my original 6' dish and an additional 3' (4'?) red Claro dish. Each has ONE transponder. Does the use of 72.7 mean that either 110 or 119 is no longer needed?

I missed this old thread, but to complete it: There are a few HD channels on the 110/119 satellites. To get 110 and 119 which are mostly SD signals now, you can use one 2 meter dish with two properly positioned LNBs but there will be some rain fade. If you have the space then you can used two 2 meter dishes instead to avoid rain fade.

To get the vast majority of HD signals you will need to get satellite 72.7 with a separate dish. A 2 meter dish reportedly just barely is able to receive this satellite in the DR. (DISH has moved the HD signals to 72.7 and 129 recently. You cannot get 129 in the DR so 72.7 is the only option).

Conchman reports he is getting 72.7 with a 2 meter dish. The FTA sites, however, only support 129 (a western arc satellite) and not 72.7 (which is an eastern arc satellite) . 129 is not viewable from this part of the world.

So if I'm getting an FTA setup, I might as well just get a single 5 ft dish aimed at 110/119 ?
