Typically for a court to have jurisdiction over a divorce, you or your spouse must be resident for a certain period of time in the state/country where you are filing. I would think it would be significantly easier for you to file in a US jurisdiction if you are a resident there.Does it matter where you were married? I need a divorce, was married in NYC but my husband is somewhere in DR and not sure where.
thanks but I'm done ... more fun being single and watching the girls try to play me....Don't give up, I got lucky second time!

Yes, unfortunately I am. I contacted a lawyer over there in DR but he aid he doesn't know if the divorce would be recognized here in NYC. Do you mean a notice in the paper in DR?Wow, Kat.. Still chasing that?
I'd consult with a lawyer here (better in the legal forum). If I'm not mistaken, a three day notice in local newspapers is all that's required when you can't find the person.

Hi Kat, Yes. That is what I meant.
But as the lawyer here told you, I'm not sure that's enough for a divorce to be recognized in the U.S.
You may be able to do the same thing there with a local newspaper.
Can't you visit a legal aid office up there and ask them? It doesn't make sense a person would have to be married forever because the spouse can't be located.
