I asked my bank - Progreso - just today, about the requirements.
Remember, they change from place to place it seems.

Passport
Letter of reference form your home bank supported by bank statements
Driver's Licence from home country

That's it if you live in Cabrera.

And if one bank doesn't open your account (or make sit difficult) just go to another one... or even a different branch of the same bank. I have heard that Progresso and Banreservas are easy on the requirements, Leon now does background check (not credit check) I was told with DNCD and DEA... I just smiled when the officer told me so after I asked about why she said to a Russian customer that his account opening would be completed within 7 to 10 business days.

What about Soctia Bank, does anyone know how hard it is to open an account with them?

I hate to make it sound so simple. Try going in the bank and speaking with the manager or his assistant. Make sure you are wearing pressed slacks, ironed professional shirt and shined shoes. Works every time , as opposed to shorts, flip flops and a sports Jersey. It ain't that complex
