The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) announced the seizure of 20 containers disguised as shampoo and hair treatment products, filled with liquid cocaine, at the Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo.

In an initial intervention operation, authorities located a box in one of the airport’s storage areas after a canine unit detected controlled substances within the package. Following instructions from the prosecutor, officials opened the box, discovering 12 containers of hair products, all filled with liquid cocaine. The box would have been shipped to France.

Likewise, in another drug capture, the DNCD reports the seizing of four scented candles filled with cocaine destined for London that were being shipped via the Dominican Postal Institute (Inposdom).

While inspecting shipments at Inposdom’s warehouse in the Centro de los Heroes, a K-9 unit had...

Sometimes dogs smell drugs where their handlers tell them to. Often rewarded with treats that the dogs are conditioned to expect.
U-Tube expose, so I'm sure it's true.

Those are the K9 Dogs in Police Cars , which are used when they stop people on the Road ...
The false alert all the time .. Yes , probably because the Police want an excuse to search the Car .

Airport is completely different , as they dont have time to waste like that .. there is no purpose to it if you think about it.
Although the Dogs may still False alert Say 50% of the time .. their ABILITY to sniff Drugs or Explosives is 99% accurate.
In other words ,they may false alert, but they will almost NEVER miss Hidden drugs or explosives when they are there.
Thats as good as it gets really.

I had one sit right next to me once , alerting to a Carry on someone had just left there at the baggage Carousel, it was amazing to watch ..
They must have watched the suspect on the Cameras .. and they walked the dog all around the perimeter .. they never went directly to the bag .
the owner must have got spooked and just left it.
No one else including myself ever noticed the owner leaving.. but the Dog sure picked it out without hesitation.
So in that scenario, with say a suspicious person, a Bag left behind on purpose, and the dog alerting on that exact bag out of hundreds of others
.. what do you suppose the Odds are of it being a real hit ? . I would say a lot better than 50/50

Would you prefer dogs reported to work on their own? Maybe they could take an Uber and pack their own lunch?

A friend of mine bought a rescue dog. When some of her other friends came round, this dog used to go crazy, standing by their feet and barking, growling. Wouldn't stop. But only for certain people. Turns out the dog had been trained as a drug detector but had been let go for some reason, and some of her friends liked their daily fix.

A dogs sense of smell is 100,000 to 1 million more sensitive than a human depending on breed and age.
They can detect a teaspoon of sugar mixed into an Olympic sized swimming pool.
They can smell scents miles away - as you would know if you've ever had a dog in heat.
And you think they can't detect your drugs?

DOGS are amazing animals. I pity those people who don't like them.

Drug smugglers have found ways around them. I had to gear up in my hazmat suit and assist the police with shipping container inspections when the drugs were packed in bags of acid powder.

Heard a story, not sure if it’s true, about a security system at one Canadian airport where passengers walked across a grate where dogs were placed underneath to sniff the airflow through the grate to find drugs. Apparently the dogs also got excited when women having their period walked across the grate.

My cousin was a dog handler with the police for five years. He loved the dogs. Preferred Alsatians for bringing a suspect down. The sniffer dogs I’ve seen working Gregorio Luperon airport are good looking young dogs. They walk them around the seated passenger areas randomly. Probably more for drug smuggling deterrent messaging than actual sniffing.

It is probably best to leave the smuggling to tbe big boys. They know how to only get caught enough for governments to think they are doing a good job on the othwerise long failed war on drugs.

On "To Catch A Smuggler" on Nat Geo one woman got caught trying to pull the same stunt as this one, but not by the dogs. She had something like 10 shampoo bottles in her bag for a one week trip They're not sending their best.

Yes, and let the cowards encourage and glamorize the industry.
