I find the variety of birds, trees, and plants more varied in the mountains than on the coast, although each area has it's own beauty.

I agree definitely the wildlife that tends to live in around a mountain region is more varied and a lot more interesting. It
may be because mountains being more inaccessible to predators and other dangers we tend to have this type of biodiversity.Altitude must play a part too. Another thing altogether the Tainos used to seek refuge in a lot of the mountainous regions from the conquistador's and just looking at a mountain is very awe inspiring.

The only real predators in the DR are humans. Thankful the Dominican government has had the foresight to set aside large areas to protect that biodiversity and water sources. Now if Dominicans could just manage to put the same effort into keeping the environment clean as they do their cars.

There are also new varieties being developed in Taiwan. The atemoya or "pineapple sugar-apple", a hybrid between the Sugar Apple and the Cherimoya,
