Since I am a fountain pen collector and use a fountain pen daily, this has my interest.
Where did the fountain pens go in the Dominican Republic when ballpoint pens did not exist?
I have asked sometimes and some older people said that they always wrote with a pencil or a crown pen (I also learned to write with that in primary school).
Others just threw them away.
I have never found an antique fountain pen here in all those years.

Interesting. I don't have an answer to your question but have been interested in these pens and was very positively surprised that our elder son wrote exclusively with this kind of a pen in his German Grundschule. I had no idea people still use those, but they taught him to write with those and you should see the writing or the numbers. It's beautiful. He then taught me how to write with it. In my country and in the DR, everything is done with pencils, but using fountain pen really teaches how to control your hand if you will.

These days only a few know how to write....

Let's get back to the OPs' question, has anyone seen a fountain pen in the DR? There was a lawyer some years ago we knew in Santo Domingo who always used a fountain pen. I remember him asking my spouse to bring him some ink from the US. I remember sitting in his office and he would pull out his fountain pen to sign papers. I will have to ask my FIL if knows of any, his office used to have some in a box.

Fountain pens are useless today . Sorry to inform you
You are mistaken ......they are as usefull today as they were years ago ......maybe to a smaller group ......and anyone who writes with a fountain pen has much better writing skills than those who use other writing instruments

I went to Catholic elementary school, fountain pens only, with those little metal levers to load the ink. I was happy when the cartridges came out, haha. We all had beautiful penmanship with those pens back then. No ball points allowed.

It's getting tough to find people these days who know how to read and write cursive.

I too went to a Catholic elementary school (Our Lady of Lourdes, how can I forget...lol). We would practice our cursive writing over and over. My niece and nephew went to a Catholic school in Santo Domingo (Colegio Santo Domingo) and their cursive writing leaves much to be desired.

Same here and I remember it well. But except for a lame attempt at signing my name, I haven't used cursive in at least 50 years.

No they are not I think. Lots of people in Europe use them on a daily basis.
That might be the reason there are so many European manufactures.
Of course we are old-fashioned but that’s oke.
I never got used using a ballpoint.

I need this one:

The average Dominican probably has no idea what a fountain pen is. Good luck with finding one.

I will admit, Trump does make a better signature than I ever could with his favorite pens though
