The Moving Hand

Dominicans use body language more than Europeans.
It's good once you understand the signals.
I adapted to the turning up of one's nose preferring it to the grunt which means the same.

However, the hand signals used in traffic are treacherous and dangerous.
A hand sticking out the car's window giving signals for instance means....

.... NOTHING, exept that the car's window is open or does not exist.
Never ever derive any meaning from such signals...

I've been doing the lip pointing for a while for all and even did it once to somebody in the US and got the funniest look!

OK, another use, as just demonstrated by Mr C - a person having a private conversation will use it as a subtle signal to the other person to warn that someone else is approaching who might be listening.

For those of you keen into body language, it is apparent that the lip movements are accompanied by other facial movements which include the eyebrows, eyes, chin, etc, actually the entire head.

I believe it was discussed before but since there are a few newbies, it's nice to talk about it again.

What about when you ask for an address and all they do is raise their arm, point their index finger towards a direction and say: "Eso queda por aya'".

No "turn this way" or "turn that way". It's like you should know what "por aya'" means.

Funny schit....
I was driving around in Los Guaricanos (a beautiful area) with a friend and we were looking for her tia Santa.

She spotted someone who knew Santa so we stopped and my friend asked her if she knew where Santa was.

She thought a bit and answered "Donde cosa...."
