Crude Oil about to break below $30 per barrel and yet the price per gallon in DR is under a price control regime at $RD162.90. The price reflecting the further collapse in Oil would probably be $RD150 or lower.

The price of most combustibles will be down beginning Sarurday.

Based on the criteria they use to set prices, expect a 2-4 peso reduction in regular gasoline prices this week.

World spot market prices are only 1 of many factors the Dominican government uses to set weekly prices.

The price is calculated on Thursday and released on Friday each week.

So the name of the game is to freeze the price long enough hoping that the price of Crude Oil rises in the interim, thereby avoiding any further decrease.

Problem is that the price of Crude Oil not only decreased during their price control regime, but decreased significantly.

Crude Oil to the teens? Now below $30 at $29.45-Down another 5.5% on the day.

This is going to put a squeeze on Gvt. bloated finances as tax revenues disappear.

The price per gallon at $29.45 could be below even $RD150.

For example, the average price per gallon in the U.S. is $1.92. We are paying $3.51 here in DR. That is an 85% increase over the price per gallon in the U.S. mostly the result of taxes.

Tax is what we need... raw taxes.

At today's Cnd $, it's cheap there.

The tarsands cannot make money at $30.

I maintain the question really is NOT ...... why $30 or less?
but why $100+ ??

This stuff is easy to harvest in many parts of the world..... bubbles from the ground
like the Beverly Hillbillies

We are paying about $3.58 at $RD162.90. Average price in the U.S. is around $2 right now. I am guessing that there could be about as much as $2 in taxes out of that $3.58 per gallon. This is enormous.

In Canada we pay 91.7 cents Canadian per liter right now Jan 15 2016 East Coast. That is $3.39 Canadian per American gallon, or $4.41 American per American gallon. Canada is an oil producing nation but taxes on our fuel is what has our prices higher than in the Dominican Republic.....sheeesh. Canadian Imperial gallon is 4.54 liters and an American gallon is 3.7 liters.

I have found this..........
average gas tax in Canada (varies by province) is 31%
Average gas tax in the USA is 11%

Prices ??
Seems the avergae liter price is about $1...
4L per gallon..........

$4 CAD.... at 76 cents US.........

about $3/Gallon .....in US dollars
about $1 of that is tax

so,

RD $3.58/gal
USA $1.99
Canada $3/gal

all US dollars

Now--- RD tax per gallon , anybody ???

Our dollar in Canada is trading at 69 cents American. See my other post for cost comparisons and for volume equations.

189.9/ Liter yesterday at Texaco in Bavaro equals 4.1778 U.S. Liter. U.S. Price in Tennessee is 180.9 per GALLON. Glad my car here gets almost 60 mpg.

That price is likely for a gallon of premium grade of gasoline.

The government sets the price for all stations.....and currently regular is 159.60 RD per gallon...whether in Bavaro, Bonao or Barahona.

Both Brent & Crude now into the $28's-Price per gallon should be well below RD$150 and more like well below $RD100 without all the enormous taxes and other graft.

Ironically, the price per gallon is now double that of late 2008, when it reached down in the $RD70's, but the price per barrel is below the lowest level reached in late 2008 of $34 per barrel. Yes, the DOP was around 34-36 then vs. 45.5 today, but price per gallon double the price in late 2008 with Crude & Brent below 2008 levels is still not explained by currency devaluation.
