Leshawn Merritt out of the 400..Hammy hurt, will not be i n 4 x 400 either...major blow.Sort of a funny here. He was suspended after Beijing for steroids. He said that he took an over the counter male enhancement medicine. The US Arbitration Court ruled that what he had taken was not for a "competitive advantage" ....well I suspect that it was not for a competitive advantage on the track.....

Lugelin looked real good, but man that kid from Grenada looks like he's going to be a monster. He looked like he was just strolling to qualify, while everyone else ran their a$$es off...

Sadly with Claro TV it seems nearly impossible to find the games, their Guia is inaccurate, a full-on crap shoot.

Felix had best time overall: 47.76

Won it with ease!! Cruised home with plenty left in the tank! Go Sanchez!!!
Felix had the best time overall among all the semifinalists (all heats)...47.76...in other words if every finalist repeats the same time in the final, then he would win gold...of course times in the final may be different!

Best semi times were:
Felix (DR): 47.76
CULSON Javier (Puerto Rico): 47.93
TAYLOR Angelo (USA): 47.95
GORDON Jehue (Trinidad): 47.96

The Caribbean islands got 3 of the best 4 times!...but the final is another matter...let's see.

Culson is the guy to beat. It would be an upset if Felix wins gold, an amazing feat...Athens 2004 and London 2012? OMG!! A rival of the great Edwin Moses....almost. Certainly the greatest ever for the DR...only Alberto Juantorena (of the before medical testing era) in the 400 was as dominant...and Felix has had too many injuries to have been "dominant" these past years...he makes a living but has not been over whelming. Go Felix!!! Go.....

Already did and won...3-0...sets ended 25-(15,16,13)...The coach mostly rested Bethania (a key player) for the quarter-final match-up against the US on Tuesday...let's see what happens...

In the past Panam cup weeks ago in Mexico, the DR faced the US 2 times...the first was a dog-fight that the US won 3-2...the next one in the semis the US won a bit more easily, 3-1.... (not sure if the US team was complete...but I guess it was b/c it was probably their final tune-up for the O.)

BTW, in their only previous venture into Olympic territory 8 years ago, the DR W-volley team only managed to win one game (and 3 total sets in the games), and that was against....check it out.

Dominicaus, I set the alarm early this morning but couldnot find the game anywhere on the TV. Did you see the game - what channel was it on?
Thanks!

I am based on continental Europe, at this time. I am following the Olympics (including this game) mostly through Eurovisionsports.tv/london2012 - Access Restrictions
They offer 12 streams (totally legal), so most everything can be watched at one of them...They also have a nice programme guide explaining what to watch in which stream.
As far as I know, the system is available in most EU countries, only.
That being said, I would be shocked if the DOM-Alg match was not shown in the DR by some channel.

Dominican Republic makes it to round 2 of women's volleyball (the quarterfinals) by defeating Algeria -- 25-15 25-16 25-13.

In the commentary on the game, London 2012 Olympics official website states:

They got there at the expense of Great Britain, who play Japan this afternoon. The 25-15 25-16 25-13 win takes Dominican Republic four points clear.

They have been slow burners in the tournament after starting with two defeats but found their rhythm when it mattered and will now carry some hope in to the last eight.

In Brenda Castillo they have the tournament's best libero and with a tall front-row at their disposal, they have the game and the flamboyance to trouble the favourites.

Next game is against the US on Tuesday, 7 August. This is the second time the Dominican women's team gets into the top eight in the Olympics. The first time was in the Athens 2004 Olympics, when the DR finished 7th, defeating the US team. But this time around, the US team is ranked first in the world by the FIVB, and the DR is 12th.

FIVB reports on the game:

London, Great Britain, August 5, 2012 – The Dominican Republic claimed a straight-set (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) over Algeria to advance to the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games women’s volleyball tournament at Earls Court on Sunday.

It was the second victory against three losses for the Dominican side while Algeria concluded the tournament without wins in five outings. The winners held a 10-4 margin in blocks.

As the fourth placed team in Pool A, the Dominicans will play Pool B leaders United States in one of the quarterfinals scheduled on Tuesday.

Prisilla Rivera was the best scorer of Dominican Republic with a match-high 21 points, followed by Milagros Cabral and Gina Mambru with 14 and 12 respectively. Zhora Bensalem finished with 13 points for Algeria.

Dominican Republic dominated from the start as Rivera, Cabral and Candida Arias spiked effectively past an Algerian defence that has struggled all tournament. They won the set easily, 25-15.

The second set saw the same Dominican Republic attackers dominate, fed well by setter Niverka Marte Outstanding libero Brenda Castillo, meanwhile, fended off Algerian attacks. Zohra Bensalem showed quality for Algeria, but Dominican Republic took the set 25-16.

Dominican Republic finished the job easily in the third set, which they took 25-13.

Algeria, a young side who will have learned a lot from the tournament, are eliminated. Dominican Republic have made it through to Tuesday's quarterfinals by winning their final two matches.

DR finished 11th/12 in Athens Olympics

This is the second time the Dominican women's team gets into the top eight in the Olympics. The first time was in the Athens 2004 Olympics, when the DR finished 7th, defeating the US team.
No, sorry, in Athens the DR only won one match (against the US), did not advance from the group stage, and finished 11th overall (of 12 participants)...Cuba got Bronze.
