Dominican Republic says it is ready for the Caribbean Series Mazatlán 2021

Santo Domingo, Jan 31.- The Dominican team of the Águilas Cibaeñas traveled to the Mexican city of Mazatlán to play in the 2021 Caribbean Series, which will take place from January 31 to February 6.

"Next stop Mazatlán, Mexico," the team wrote on Twitter before embarking on a private flight to that city from Cibao Airport, in the province of Santiago (north), headquarters of the Eagles.

The first meeting of the champions of the Dominican Professional Baseball Tournament 2020-2021 will be this Sunday against the Criollos of Puerto Rico at the Teodoro Mariscal stadium in Mazatlán.

At least five Águilas Cibaeñas players tested positive for coronavirus as a result of the players' celebration after defeating the Gigantes del Cibao in the final series of the championship in a seventh and decisive match on January 18.

Among them are gardeners Juan Lagares, Juan Carlos Pérez and plant recipient Francisco Peña who, after overcoming covid-19, have been able to make the trip.

The Dominicans present a solid team, with deep pitching, first-rate hitting and safe defense, with figures that have shone in the majors led by infielder Robinson Canó, with 334 home runs in the majors.

The 'cuyayas' have obtained five Caribbean Series titles, of the 20 that Dominican teams have achieved

The six teams participating in the Caribbean tournament will undergo rigorous isolation measures and medical checks to prevent the spread of covid-19, which will mark the Series with a distinctive stamp because there will be less coexistence off the field, something that characterizes this tournament, started in 1949.

This year the Series will take place with a phase through the free-for-all system, from which the best four will come out to play the semifinals on Friday, February 5 and the final one day later.

In 2020, the Dominican Toros del Este won the final against the Lara Cardinals of Venezuela.

I've never seen a game start at 11pm before, is that normal for the series?

It’s the time zone difference. They are playing in Mazatlan Mexico which is GMT-7.

Game was 8PM Mazatlan Time which is 11PM in DR.
