Could someone please tell me how the Dominicans are paid. I heard that the minimun wage is about 2500 pesos. ( per week or month? )

Are they paid an hourly wage for a 40 hour week?

What is their hourly peso per hour? or is is just so many pesos per week?

thanks for your help Ken

The minimum wage for the private sector is RD$2,895. Note though that is for companies with assets of more than RD$500,000 and that there are many other minimum wages per kind of work -- free zone, construction, farming, hotels, etc. It is usual for persons to work 44 hours a week and be paid every 15 days. Government workers are paid monthly.

The Ministry of Labor has a web site that lists the categories where the salaries are different. We checked for the wages, and noticed that these were not up to date, so just use as reference. You could try sending them an email for the updated version. (www.set.gov.do)

You may also refer to the web page of the law firm Russin, Vecchi & Heredia Bonetti at www.rvhb.com They have on line a document with frequently asked questions on labor issues.
