I Am All For It !!!

Wow! I should have checked back to my post on this! Lo Siento!!!

I would love to try to have some sort of picnic that we could all meet up at. Since I posted this out families have grown. :)

Let me know if anyone is interested. I know my husband gets homesick for other Dominicans and it would be fun to taste someone else's Sancocho for a change...

Tracy - La Gringa married to a Dominicano de La Vega :)

I have actually met a lot more Dominicans since trying to get together. We can make it work. The first time always seems to be the most difficult, but after that it should be a lot easier. I'm not sure how often people check this site; thus, my email is: familiahenderson@yahoo.com.

This Friday my family will be at the Music Under the Star Event near downtown Austin since they will have a Latin band playing. Here is the link:
Music Under the Star: Tiburon & Salsa Candela - Austin, TX Events - KEYETV.biz

Hopefully we will get together soon.

Dominicanos in Austin

Hi guys,

I have been out of touch for some time. I had posted a question about finding fellow Dominicanos in Austin. I'm so happy to hear the responses. I am the Dominicana who moved to Austin from New York last August. We have since moved to Manor. I'm not sure if people met up at Mangu but I would love to be part of that. I have a 6y and 4y old. Maybe we could create a FACEBOOK group and that could have us check our mail more regularly. I hadn't checked this site for quite some time which is why I lost touch.

I am thinking of opening a catering business specializing in Dominican food.

I will check this site out regularly, but let me know if anyone is interested in meeting up and setting up on FACEBOOK.

Welcome. The weekends would be the best time to try to get together. The work schedules can be crazy during the week (especially with this Austin traffic) so it makes it a bit more difficult.

I actually just made it here to Austin yesterday morning!! I'll be leaving either Sunday night or Monday morning...the irony that i just came across this thread.

edit: btw I'm the product of a Dominican mother and a half Panamanian, half Cuban father, so as not to mislead.

and i'm off of Loop 1 and Mopac btw..visiting my cousin (by marriage) for his birthday. I'd be willing to make trips back here more often, and the idea has actually come up about moving here. I'll be checking back in here just to stay updated on what everyone has come up with. I'm kind of excited! Take care!

Weekend Spots

Well, if you are here just for the weekend here are a few spots that you may want to try out... nothing truly Dominican, but Latin nonetheless:

Friday - Twin Palms (W of IH-35 on the frontage road of 183)
Saturday - El Rincon in Pflugerville
El Sol y La Luna on 6th St

edit: btw I'm the product of a Dominican mother and a half Panamanian, half Cuban father, so as not to mislead.

And I'm mixed up with all kind of ethnicities too, so don't worry;)

Another Hang Out Spot

There is also a Latin hip-hop band, Los Bad Apples, at Krush tonight if you like that.

I am Dominican and just moved with my girlfriend from NYC to Austin, TX in September. We are living in South Austin and both currently looking for jobs here. Would love to connect with other Dominicans. I'm originally from Santo Domingo. I am into running, biking and also play basketball. Would be very interested in any Dominican Meet-ups or groups in the area.

Don't Look There

Welcome to Texas!

There is a place in Austin that supports a mission school in the DR. I've never been to it, but you might want to try it out. Maybe they'll be a few Dominicans around?

Dominican Joe Coffee Shop in Austin, TX - Drink Coffee. Change the World.

Houston has more Dominicans (the only Dominican consulate in TX is there, I think) so I'd plan on going there for baseball.

Suerte!

There is nothing Dominican about Dominican Joe's... hahahahaha.
