DR and New York Homologate Driver's Licenses

Basically, someone with a Dominican driver's license will be able to get a New York driver's license by simply showing a valid Dominican one and paying the fee for a new NY driver's license. No need to retake the driver's license test.

People with a New York driver's license can do the same to get a Dominican driver's license in the DR.

I did not have to surrender either License.

As you can see from some of the responses there is information missing. For starters, if one remains in NYS for a period of time (90 days ?) and live there and drive there you must apply for a NYS license. I am not aware of ANY state in the US that allows a person to hold two licenses.

To add to above: I had two licenses in the NYS. The NY one was stamped and blacked out with marker and said something like "Dead in the water". Useless to get tags and plates in another state.

That's only if you move to New York from another state in the USA and Canada. It says nothing about having driver's licenses for New York and Dominican Republic. For people that spend part of the year in New York and another part in Dominican Republic, having driver's licenses from the two places could be convenient.

There are hundreds if not thousands of Dominicans living in NY part of the year and the DR part also that use their DR License in NY to drive. I guarantee you that NONE have ever had any problems with this...................
