Its like from the point of view of tourism industry.
That's because of the people that visit the DR near 0% visit Haiti during the same trip. It could be said foreign visitirs to Hispaniola almost all of them visit the DR and that's it. In reality most of the DR isn't visited by most tourists either. This is unlike the case in Saint Martin to use one example.

Any list that puts Puerto Rico so far above Grenada I(or almost ANY of the others! The only Really good beaches are Vieques and Culebra) ) s REALLY suspect...

Where is this one from?
Grenada is so small. You can literally cross the island in 40 minutes by car (drive on the wrong side of the road).
But it does have the seven waterfalls and a way better selection of hot sauces than anything you can find in Puerto Rico or the DR.

I have been to 14 of the places listed. Most of them have some beautiful spots and beaches but they all have some not so great places as well. But the fact that they claim Cuba is #1 and whoever wrote this has no sense at all as, both DR and Haiti are not islands shows its just more uninformed crap that writers and the media call journalism.

One could also argue that St. Martin is also not one island as it is occupied by two countries, France and Holland. The Dutch side receives more visitors as the cruise ships stop in the capital, Philipsburg and because of this, the Dutch side is more developed. The French side is more laid back and has more of a Caribbean flair to it. I worked on cruise ships for 5 years and I was in Saint Martin every 2 weeks and we nearly always went to the French side, firstly to get away from the passengers and secondly as the beaches were nicer. I have visited most places on the list and all have some incredibly beautiful locations, many have some not so nice places but the beauty of those countries is far greater than locations that are less desirable....unfortunately with the exception of Haiti. But there are places such as Jamaica that can be just as dangerous. The island is spectacular with some of the most beautiful locations in the entire Caribbean, but alas, there are some areas that you just don't feel safe at all. When I first started going to Jamaica we stopped at Ocho Rios which was a beautiful location, so calm and peaceful surrounded by some incredible people. But then the ship started going to Montego Bay which really was not a nice location, and quite dangerous in many areas of the city. The same can be said for Kingston Town. But the island itself is beyond beautiful which is shame as Jamaica has a crime reputation that reduces the amount of visitors that the island could potentially receive. Having been to most islands I can give pros and cons to most, but out of them all my favorite place is still the Dominican Republic...for its people, its size, beauty, history and diversity which is why it has been my home for 20 years. Out of all the countries that I have lived and where I was raised, I have lived in the DR longer than any other country!

It’s really like comparing apples and oranges. Some islands are very small and very high end. The DR must be the most diverse. There is both high and more middle and more affordable options. And only the DR has something like Sosua haha

With Cuba at #1 , I stopped reading after that.

Precisely. I spent a lot of time in Cuba, was married to a Cuban, everything is seriously expensive, the food is absolutely disgusting and nothing works. And Americans aren't even allowed to go there any more. How that can rank as number 1 on anyone's list defies belief.

Great music. Great cigars. Great rum. I found the people really nice. Yes, the food is not great. It sometimes feels like a step back in time.

Different strokes for folks. I have been to about half the islands and my favorite is Guadalope. Barbados is super nice as well.
