DR to Hong Kong via Frankfurt, or other European city?????

I want to book a flight to Hong Kong. I was looking on the net and found one SDQ-FRA-HKG. Now when I go on the net everything is booked through the US. I don't want to go via the US. A Dominican traveling with me doesn't need a Schengen visa, or a German visa if we stop in Germany for less than 12 hours and stay in the airport......any suggestions out there????

Try Air Europa SDQ > MAD and Turkish Airlines MAD > IST > HKG. You have to go through security again in Istanbul but that's quick, if you connect to another Turkish Airlines flight you're not going to miss it. If you have a long layover at IST there's a TAV hotel at the airside where you pay per three hour intervals (hotel not a caba?a). Alternative routing SDQ > CDG and Turkish Airlines from there. Turkish Airlines is better than most American airlines. Visa requirements for Dominicans I'm not sure, but at Barajas I've been exposed to passport check while exiting the aircraft.

You will need boarding pass all the way through departing SDQ, if not you have to go through immigration at Barajas (MAD).

Just recently flew Condor from Frankfurt to POP, for sure they go the other way as well. And Condor (and Lufthansa) were much cheaper than other major airlines.

Theo, thanks for the information, this is a flight I had found, but now I can't book it because every time I go online that #%#@#$$# system puts me through the US. Should have booked in March, but now its difficult.....maybe need to go directly to airport and ask......Also could be that some airlines don't have authorization to sell tickets originating from the DR....so the journey continues......

About flying with Condor from DR, I tried buying that flight in December last year and the told me they only sell tickets from Germany to SDq and back, not the other way around. I had never heard of that but figured it might be difficult for them to fill up flights if they have people booking from SDQ to Germany as well. It was 200 euros cheaper than with air europa though (except that I couldn't book it).

You can buy Condor flights originating in the DR but not directly form Condor. You must use a travel agency, many times Expedia does suffice.

Sorry to resurrect this subject but since this in in the visa section i believe is good to have correct information here for people trying to get orientation in the future.

Im Dominican and have been traveling every year to HKG since 2007.

The rules changes all the time, specially for people without US or Schengen Visas.

Regarding the places were a Dominican can do a layover without visa it goes as this:

- First, you cannot transit through France unless holding a valid Schengen or US visa (this is even staying airside). No visa, no France. Period. (And this is the most direct route and the one i usually take SDQ-CDG-HKG).

-Second, you cannot connect between 2 Schengen countries without visa. This is because all flights in schengen space are considered internal, so you don't go through immigration. You need to clear immigration at the first airport you reach in Europe or stay in the international zone to take you connecting flight out of Europe.

This takes out of possibilities all flights marked with asterisk:

*SDQ-MAD-FRA-HKG Air Europa and Lufthansa
SDQ-FRA-HKG Condor and Lufthansa
*SDQ-CDG-FRA-HKG Air France and Lufthansa

SDQ-MAD-LHR-HKG Iberia and Cathay Pacific Airways
SDQ-MAD-LHR-HKG Iberia and British Airways

Now, as noted the flights with layovers in MAD-LHR are technically possible, but in MAD airport you should clear immigration if you move from terminal to terminal, i know SDQ-MAD arrives to terminal T4S but i don't know where the flight MAD-LHR departs from. So even if technically possible i don't know how will immigration handle this case, and even worse when the one involved is a Dominican with no visa at all.

The other ways to get to HKG would be flying SDQ-PTY-AMS-HKG, but it involves a really long layover in Panama. Or flying SDQ-HAV-SVO-HKG, but you will never find this flight on Expedia or any of those sites because it involves a stop in Havana, buy the tickets as this: SDQ-HAV on the Copa or Cubana website and HAV-HKG on the Aeroflot website (make sure it only makes 1 stop in Russia and VVO is not involved or another visa issue will arise since VVO doesn't have a transit area), this will be really the cheapest option for a Dominican with no visa going to HKG since both tickets can be had of ra total of less than 2000 USD.
