Rafael, you are better off to encode in one format and codec and let people work around that. In my experience, too many options, causes too much confusion. WMV files are the way to go!

Going by the feedback and emails I have received, it looks like people would be interested.

Anyone got any other ideas of the type of content you would like?

We have a local racing show called the South Florida Motorsports Report(Sundays at 10am) and we are in Pre-production for a new show called Dark Dog Street Energy(Saturdays 9pm). Both shows are on the Vibe Channel. We also do Commercials and Video promos.
We have been looking at "Toaster" but we are all set up on Adobe premier and just about have it down to a science so we haven't changed over. How we are for TV broadcast we have no need for compression also.
Right now we are also planning a trip to the DR to cover some races and the street scene this summer.

Call me Oliver Stone;-) But since your forums log IPs, I have a whacky hunch that the IP for Xena might, and I repeat might be a DR IP, probably codetel IP.

It appears odd that xena has only been registered since March 21st and has 2, count em 2 posts so far. Both in this thread.

Hm m m m m m, with all the threads on Dr1, one could probably find one much more important for their first 2 posts.

When xena says stick to doing websites, it almost sounds like "she" is familiar with this site. Moreso that someone that has only been a member for less than a week.

Sounds very cool Tony. What do you shoot on? I know a few guys doing nascar shows on toasters. BTW, there is a plug-in in the works to allow Premiere to work with the Toaster in Real Time with uncompressed video.

I like the idea like I stated before and we need to keep in mind that this is just a preview.

The DR Tourism Dept came out with a video last Decemeber I beleve about the DR and the video sold out during the virst week. The only drawback was that it was only on VHS and I don't use VHS anymore.

I think you should focus on both sides of what DR has to offer. You should visit the AI resorts in Punta Cana. Go to el Seybo where they make all the "dulce de leche" and stuff like that.

Do a video on certain Regions like Cibao. There is so much you can do.

thank you cmedina, this is exactly the type of feedback we need.

I worked with a NYC crew where we shot the "off the beaten path stuff". I was of the opinion that they were wrong in ONLY showing that stuff. They would shoot the"intro"and the "wrap up" for the Cock Fight, out side the Cock Fight. To me that was not the right approach.

I would have shot the hosts sitting poolside drinking a frosty tropical drink, commenting on how this is how 80% of the people experience the DR. Then talk about being adventourous and set up the segment on Cockfighting or Cigar factory etc.

I also voted they shoot the "wrap up" sitting in a KFC and talk about eating the "loser" from the previous days cock fight;-)

BTW, I don't even see these clips as being good "previews" of future videos. They are just a montage of clips with a music bed, meant just to give people a "taste" of said subject matter.

I think it's a very good idea. For me the "off the beaten path stuff" would be the most interesting. But to get a very good overall picture I think you should do both sides. I have a hard time explaining met friends back home why I love the DR so much. And I can show them 100's of pics its not the same as a video, specially about the real dominican life and stuff. I tried to find that video the DR tourist dep made but like was stated before it was sold out and I could not find a copy. I would prefer DVD though.

So I voted yes.

BTW I was in Kite-beach in feb and American Airlines whas shooting a video about the DR to show on the flights. Maybe they air it when you fly to NY.

I would suggest you not show Cock Fighting as many people would be put off by it. It is not everybodies cup of tea and lots of people will be offended by it.
How about showcasing the nightlife? Some of the Clubs and such around the Capital? The Action on Ave. Lincoln? I am sure that some places would even pay for you to showcase your establishment.

As far as the problems with the video display, Windows Media Player has an auto-update feature that should go out and download that codec thing so that you can view it. If you have a firewall, then it won't allow you to do so unless you let it (that's what happened with me). So make sure your update feature is working. If it is, when you open the clip it'll go and download the component. It takes about a minute. Hope this helps!

No, the cockfighting was for a crew from NY doing a pilot. It was very interesting, and the story was not the fight itself which was pretty darn disgusting, but the culture and the crowds.

Thanks for the Nightlife feedback. I was thinking about covering the wide variety of nightlife in SD. The avenida lincoln clubs, the Zona Colonial cafes and clubs, local car wash type places, the Avenida Venezuela clubs for the more adventurous etc.

Heck, I think a video guide to living in Santo domingo might be a good idea. We are alwasy reading posts from people wanting to move here.

The crew on Kite beach in February were shooting for a Continental airlines show, not American Airlines. I was working with them and we also shot some resort stuff in Sosua, some santiago and also some Santo Domingo. Sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Chase bank.

yes it was continental airlines, and if you were there with them you must have seen us. They were doing one shot over the shoulder of my friend who was sitting in the restaurant at kite-beach.

Yep, I was the big lug with the pony tail sitting at the table drinking Seven Up and resting from a very hectic shooting schedule. I mostly helped them out with translating, finding locations and of course driving. At first they said they would do the driving. . . . . .till they got here;-)

I felt much safer with an experienced DR Driver, me, behind the wheel.

LocaNYer, that was my first trip to cabarete, and I too look forward to heading back. I'll have to shoot some footage on Kite Beach!

As far as Sankys gone wild. . . . . .I just got emailed by a buddy of mine in NY who will most likely be doing a site for an exotic dancer. He told me I need to bring my video gear as she wants to do some videos. Turns out she is Dominican. I'll take that over taping sankys anyday;-) Heck I might even charge her for the video;-)

What about shots of some of the little known places, i.e., Las Galeras and show how cheap and easy it is to travel in the DR. Caribe is a steal compared to any form of transportation in Canada and totally comfortable, however, sometimes run on "DR time schedules".
Maybe then some would actually tour the island and not miss out on some of the most beautiful, secluded spots in the world (my opinion only of course).

Anyone ever been to the "flamingo" strip club in sosua?I have a couple of home made videos I shot in the place with my camcorder.About an hour long each.I would never sell them but I bet I could get a few bucks for them if I tried.Pretty cool stuff.
