My pick of dentist in puerto plata would be Dr. freddy Pepe (speaks good english).

Another good plastic surgeon in santiago (trained in brazil) : Dr. Tallaj.

adrianb, it is a legitimate 3rd party recommendation. It is only you and I that feel that 'spammy kneejerk reaction' and it is on account of the things that we do in life

For that matter, we could be suspicious about AZB and I recommending not only the same chiro's but the same dentists as well. No, there is nothing to be worried about. The medics are good at what they do .. we simply seem to have the same taste in medical professionals. Our world here is fairly small.

Indeed it is. I have met another dentist recommended, Dr. Saquib Khan, in Dr. Lepe's surgery. He has the most wonderful way with children to reduce anxiety - I watched it in action. Initially I thought he was Dominican & as we were all speaking in Spanish I couldn't understand why he kept discussing cricket with me (unusual for a Dominican) until the penny dropped. (A Brit. & a Pakistani will usually get round to cricket sooner or later).

No, let's not tell as the medics in question are fine medics. The methods of promoting them are a little over the top.

I will second, third and fourth this recommendation. A number of years ago my son crashed on a gravel drive while on his ****ola (sorry about the spelling), and his face, arms, shoulders, legs and feet were a real mess. Dr Gideon and a very cute young nurse very patiently spent hours cleaning him up, disinfecting the wounds and removing a lot of gravel. It was a very painful experience for my son and I am afraid the innocent young nurse learned a few new English words that you wouldn't find in a dictionary.

Anyway, when we returned to Canada and visited our Doctor there, he raved about the job Dr. Gideon had done in cleaning up my sons wounds and by the way, there was never any infestion at all.

To this day I will thank Dr Gideon for taking such great care of my son and also apoligize to the young nurse for the education in English my son gave her.

An altogether nice man, an excellent and accomplished wife in her field which is implants. Nice people to have in the DR. (And they sometimes eat good Pakistani Food as well!)

Well nobody has mentioned them yet but I cannot speak too highly of the Clinica Cubana in Las Terrenas. Calle Duarte. I was in there a couple of weeks ago with an unexpected angina attack. They treated me immediately. After care was faultless and now I?m fine. Additionally impressed because when I took my wife in there yesterday with a headache associated with the eyes they apologised said their specific specialist was on holiday for 15 days and suggested someone in Nagua. Really only speak a few words of english.

You may know that Chris, but I don't even know who adrianb is talking about. Adrian has been around a while so if he raises the issue of non-credibility of recommendation then it needs addressing. Not necessarily publically but it still needs addressing. Not for me (I know who to go to & if I didn't, I know whose opinion I would consult) but for people who don't know. Otherwise there will always be question marks there & that might have a knock on effect on the other recommendations. It'd be a shame if DR1 went to all the trouble to do a 'members recommended list' & people had reservations about it.

If someone does a website for a medic & also personally finds them a good doctor, that's fine, but wouldn't it be simpler if they declared their interest up front? I mean................it's a bit more important than a real estate recommendation.

YES, PLEASE SHARE THE INFO! I'd like to know to whom adrian is referring. Without that, I haven't the foggiest idea which one of the above recs is the issue.

I WILL add that one of the recs by someone else--for Dr. Gurerro (the plastic surgeon) is NOT one I'd personally go with--he's reportedly great for tummy tucks but NOTHING else. Anyway, I'm always glad to hear the various pros and cons of different practitioners and services. This is one of the huge benefits to DR1 (and the net in general): the ability to access what used to be privileged info (e.g. docs used to JUST ask other docs who they'd use--which I still do but like other input). As long as people are posting their experiences or linking to sites where one can hear 'it from the horse's mouth' of other patients, I believe it should ALL be allowed up here. If someone has a vested financial interest in a particular practice, THAT should be disclosed!

I would swear by Dr Sylvester Andujar for bone work - but there are a couple on this board who would swear AT him!! Choosing a doctor you can TRUST can be a very personal thing & needs the confidence, respect & comunication of both parties!!

I trusted him with my "LIFE",and he "Did Good"! several times!
Cedimat also has a "Chest Pain" and "Stroke",emergency room,open 24/7. Which I "used" at 1 am earlier this month! I was in Atrial fib.,and I was admitted at 1 am. I was treated "all night",and "Converted" to a normal sinus rythem at about 8 am,home by noon! That will teach me not to take my "Meds"!
My internist is Dr. Catharine Schiraldi,who has a private office,and also sees patients at CEDIMAT. She is "MY" internist. I think she is great. She is an American.USA trained as well. Not only a great doctor,but a really nice "Lady" too!
