For the past year and a bit I have been visiting Dutch prisoners in the Dominican penitiary system. It's a volunteer 'job' to make sure the Dutch resocialisation / reintegration board knows what is going on with Dutch nationals in the Dominican carcels and is aware how they could be / need to be received / supported etc once they are out and come back to the Netherlands.
Currently there are only four volunteers and to keep the work load low (after all it's a voluntary work) more volunteers are needed. It typically takes one day or half a day of your time every two months. You'll get reimbursed for transportation cost (really only that, it covers the gas but that's it) and an amount for food and in case it's necessary for lodging (there are volunteers that make two day trips to another part of the country).
I can say from my own experience it's an interesting thing to do. It broadened my world view and the people being visited are always very happy to receive us and have a chat.
Important prerequisite: you need to be Dutch. I know there are not that many Dutch nationals on this board that alsonlive here, but maybe the few that are would be interested or maybe there are Dutch 'lurkers'. For more info please pm me or if you can't because of not having a high enough post count visit the Facebook page of the Dutch embassy: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1692920880719544&id=676737129004596.
