Not at all.

Certainly semana santa is an active week.

Be even more surprised though if the numbers/figures they post are accurate. They have a vested interest...........that does not always tend to be accurate and it certainly has not been reflected on the many webcams in Punta Cana/Bavaro region so far this week.

Sky please stop digging your hole deeper. You have made multiple inaccurate statements in this thread alone.

That statement referred to one weeks numbers/figures..........and the numbers/figures the government were touting for that week..............

And some people believe those numbers.........so be it. I prefer to try and confirm those statements/numbers...........and refute/push back where needed.

And I do not base numbers on whether the parking lot at PUJ is full..............as has been alluded to. ;)

Additionally, as my post suggests, the overall economy is holding up well..........at least for the short/medium term.

Respectfully,
Playacaribe2

I can put my kids in private school.
I can't build a road to drive on in order to get to work to make money to put my kid in private school.
I would much rather see road/infrastructure if priorities have to be set.
Just my thoughts...
Understood 100%. I was just talking about the average (poor) families here that can’t afford private schools. The lacking public schools

Yes my man.
There was a tiny bit of sarcasm in my comment.

Of course schools are important.
Education is important.
My friend has a young son who is an engineer here. Says he has so much work and competing offers for jobs it is making his head spin. So, it is important to provide a quality education to all young people.

But along that same line, a strong infrastructure of telecommunication services will help with that also.
I learn a lot on the internet (not here on DR1 🤪) but other places).

The school infrastructure is done, just need to improve the product. As far as potable water, roads....etc you are absolutely correct. Once you have decent roads, reliable electricity, and drinkable and available water then the government can put more effort into crime reductions....etc.

I agree with this whole heartily. Infrastructure development is both important and it stimulates economic growth. These projects creates much needed jobs for the lower rung of the labor force and the skilled worker alike. This gets money circulation which increases tax revenue and public coffers. Done right and with minimal corruption the government should have funds to invest on the longer term projects like education.

There are currently something like 700+ infrastructure projects being executed.

I'm constantly surprised when folks write about the country needing to invest in infrastructure.

Like what?
Sosua Beach Renovations?

When the lights don't stay on and the water does not come out of my tap...infrastructure continues to be on the front of my mind...not the back.

Money in the coffers of the government from confiscation of wealth and income (also known as taxes) from a good economy is where it all starts.

Educated this "guest" on this extensive list of infrastructure projects please...

JD there are many development projects that are erroneously called infrastructure but really aren't. Infrastructure in the traditional sense are aqueducts, electrical generation and distribution, bridges, roads and communication. These "infrastructure" projects benefit the core segment of society and is the bedrock for all other developments.. Although tourism based "infrastructure" projects are all the rage the core infrastructure is still pretty much in disrepair. Could you imagine what would a stable 24 hour country wide electric grid, full constant portable water and an adequate sewerage collection system do for this country? I assume much more than the current based tourism 'infrastructure" projects would do.

I think you were here 20 years ago as I was and cannot believe the infrastructure. that is in the DR now compared to what it was then. Most posters have no idea how the roads where than. If there was a dividing line it was a miracle..............

Sure thing! Follow MOPC on IG or their website mopc.gob.do where they list what they're working every day.

They have invested heavily............but that is because there was lots and lots of money to be made for certain folks who controlled the game. Odebrecht who built many of those roads.................paid millions in bribes to the then powers in/out the government.

When I lived in Gazcue, it would take 3.5-4 hours to get to Bavaro....................via Boca Chica, San Pedro, La Romana (always intrigued by the metal sculpture place), Higuey, and Otra Banda.

That has improved for sure. Even the electricity service came up a couple notches from the old days.

Lots of new schools built...............few equipped. School extended to full days..............but the quality of instruction still needs work.

Progress has been made................just not enough for the amount of money spent......or should I say wasted.

Yes, I can imagine what that would do. Great things.

Ok, infrastructure has improved from a F to a D-.
I am not going to give a trophy for most improved student.
I am living here in 🇩🇴 right now‼️
