Following through with the announced plan to get more power users to pay for the service, Edesur Dominicana announced that it has dismantled 7,700 illegal electrical connections and regularized service for hundreds of customers in a series of anti-fraud operations across seven provinces.

The actions have been primarily carried out in San Cristóbal, Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia, Pedernales, San Juan and Elías Piña provinces, where hundreds of thousands of people received free power services. I guess the question is why has this taken so long?
Second question: When is the govt going to audit the EDEs?
Because the EDE's are very corrupt. Because the government was subsidizing some clients and allowing others to pay the higher costs while others were outright just stealing power for their large businesses and paying off the EDE personnel.

That is why the EDEs have to go. Private power companies would never allow that crap to happen.

A beast that should be slaughtered out of existence.
I might have completely missed this, but wasn't there a plan a couple of years ago to dismantle or restructure or something CDEEE and the EDEs? Nothing ever came out of that? And the step-by-step kwh rate increase was like part of that plan, to eventually get rid of the subsidized luz? This was when we were moving so I did not really focus on news that much...

Yes, The current President of the DR is on record for the dismemberment plan that never happened. I probably mentioned that one or two hundred times over the years.

Thanks, then my memory serves me right. I recall when we began starting to watch the monthly rate to go slightly up
