Editrudis Beltrán was elected the new rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) for 2022-2026. With 71.5% of the votes counted, Beltrán obtained 1,321 votes (57.45%) and his contender, Jorge Asjana David, obtained 929, for 40.40%. The state university took off a week to carry out the election.
The wife of Minister of Superior Education, Rosalia Sosa was voted to the vice rector in charge of campuses outside the National District.
Former UASD rector who is today the Minister of Superior Education, Franklin García Fermin had campaigned actively in favor of the winning candidates.
