Checking everyone's ID will stop this.
Sigh

Hi Scotty,
in theory that's correct but not all cedulas are to be trusted. A girl that works on the beach showed me her cedula which said that she was 21 but she confessed that she actually was only 17.
But surely, checking the ID will improve the situation since at least the boys and girls will see the importance of wearing their cedula with them.

Bart,

You also know daggone well that this wasn't my intended point. But I will admit that one's cedula doesn't mean much. I mean, people can purchase a deceased's identity for an amount of money. So what is so surprising that the same thing can be done with a cedula? Also, your date or you can simply "pay off" the guard. However, my commentry was not directed at the subject of checking cedulas. Moreover I was answering the comments made directed at a certain race and gender of people. I personally assisted more then three dozen African American men with their vacations to (quote) "knock some boots and lay some pipe". LOL, I have also given travel tips to a few white chicks as well and once again they were going down to (quote) "get wild with some strange". But I would never call any of them dirty. They are adults and can do whatever they wish with their lives. Who am I to judge? I just hope that they do the right thing and go with someone that is of age, they are careful and for crying out loud they DON'T FALL IN LOVE.

If you can truly disagree with me I will fly over to Brugge and buy you the biggest dinner and night out of drinks you could imagine.

Your friend,

Scottie

Does this the Hotel Colibri Still Shuit Down its Plant?

What is the most recent experience with the Hotel Colibri in Sosua. Are there new owners? Does is still shut down its plant or does it operate 24/7? Thanks.

Hotel Colibri

I stayed there over 4 years ago in late 2001 and was very unhappy with the place for a number or reasons. However, it is possible that the place is under new ownership now so I will think it would be unfair for me to relay my experiences with the hotel if in fact it is under new ownership.

However, if it is still under Dutch ownership with the manager being a skinny black Dutch guy named Patrick, do yourself a favor and stay in a different hotel.

Stayed there about 9 months ago power was always down ,couldn,t run air certain times of the day.
The bed was well worn but the pool was nice and the owner freindly.
The grounds are very well manicured. Also there was a pretty good steak house about 50 yards outside the complex (Toros).
The walk to the center of town is about 15 minutes.

I have to add my two cents.

Hotel name is "El Colibri" in Sosua, on Pedro Clisante. Not to be confuse with "Playa Colibri" in Las Terrenas. two completly different hotels and two worlds apart.

I stay at El Colibri in Sosua for a night, last year(Nov 05) and have similar experience. Pool and grounds are nice, but the room sucks big time, luckly I was on my own and no one else to add more bitching of the place. "El Chipo" will be more appropiate name.

Hi Larry,

I hear you are heading back down if you aren't there already. Please enjoy yourself. I believe the black Dutchman's name was Steven or Stephen.

Hi Scotty,

His name was Patrick....I am sure. That was my first trip to the DR but the poor hotel accomodations at El Colibri didn't ruin my trip or deter me from returning. In fact, I returned for my second trip 6 weeks after the first.

Oh and BTW, yes, I am returning to Sosua this weekend but not DOWN to it as you said, now I go UP to it. I live in the capital now. I dont visit Sosua often anymore as over the years it has lost it's allure but I still go up on occasion to visit old friends, lay on the beach and get a change of scenery.

Larry,

Could have swore he introduced himself to me as Stephen....his wife was called Monique??? Anyway, have a great time while "up" in Sosua. I just returned from being there for almost 2 months. I'll be down there full time hopefully very soon! See ya around!
