A report in El Dia says that countries are on alert given the increasing proliferation of Islam followers in gang-dominated Haiti. The newspaper says this is a wake-up call for security agencies both in the Dominican Republic and the United States. The newspaper reports that the present situation and worsening of the poverty in Haiti has lead thousands of Haitians to turn to Islam with the help of NGO funding.

El Dia reports: “In addition to the widespread domination of Haitian territory by gangs and the uncontrollable wave of violence they are carrying out, there is a growing presence of Muslim groups in that nation, which is beginning to attract attention due to the fear of possible threats to the security of the region.”

The newspaper says that security agencies from several countries have documented more than 50 new Muslim centers in Haiti. It reports that the schools of...

This is something the Dominican government had better be paying close attention to. With so many resorts hosting hundreds of thousands of western tourist, there are a lot of soft targets in this country should a terrorist organization ever decide to launch an attack on Dominican soil.

A small group of dedicated terrorist can wreak havoc and do a lot of damage. Look at the pain and suffering they've caused in countries like Burkina Faso and Mali, even some of bigger ones like Kenya and Nigeria.

Can you imagine the impact one small terrorist attack on a resort in a place like Punta Cana would have on this country's tourism industry?

I think the first post was pretty clear. It's about the "islamisation" of certain gangs in Haiti and not about individuals that are practicing their religion in Peace.
This People are Dangerous ! If you like it or not.

"It reports that the schools of Islam are similar to those that gave rise to the Taliban that ended up controlling Afghanistan."

This statement is what prompted me to respond the way I did. The article claims some of the funding is coming from Turkiye which has been a victim of several terrorist attacks over the last 40 years and Erdogan has a very heavy hand towards terrorist. They do not tolerate it.

The article also claims "It also highlights that many young Haitian women are being taken to the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia to complete their studies"

This could become a real problem because unlike Turkiye, Saudi Arabia has a much different attitude towards the teachings of Islam.

NGO's are involved???
No sh*t their involved.
When are they not involved when it comes to spreading new ideologies that are in stark contrast to a country's traditional morals, values and cultural norms?

All the major religions are based on love and consideration for others . It is only when fundamentalists and ignorant people try to twist the religions for their own purposes that problems begin. I think that If Muslim missionaries are going into Haiti and converting people to Islam ,it is no different than the Spaniards and the Portuguese did throughout Latin America several centuries ago . But really , civilised people should be able to live in harmony regardless of what faith they practice.

I accept of course your interference but with a title that states “wake-up call” automatically the question rises why.
But oké, sorry, I started.

A whole bunch of posts have been deleted. Nothing to do with Haiti or DR, just religion (which is a “no” here).

Come on guys, it’s not a free-for-all thread. Has to refer to Hispaniola

What’s so difficult about understanding that responses have to be about DR or Haiti? Not Europe, the Netherlands or New York. Not about the religion itself.

That would be the end of DR / Haiti diplomatic. Haiti will loose more than DR.

Will see massive deportation like in a real exodus.

JJ
Here you are wrong ! Haiti has nothing to loose anymore ! Trump called it a "Shithole" and this bis an insult to ant other "Shithole" in the world.

I agree ReyRey...a strike on the soft underbelly known as the AI is going take out a lot of western tourists.

The DR does not compare to the mentioned african countries because:
  • small island
  • no groups with military organizations with logistics, arms and financing like in african countries
  • DR has nothing to offer that a terrorist group could ask for
