Again gents thanks !. Can you advise me if I could install a breaker on this feed to the HW tank, I have 2 "hot" 8mm wires taken from the main ring whch supplies the a/c, these do have breakers installed at the DB, but reading the posts again, I'd like to have belt & braces on the tank, by installing a breaker to each supply and also by locally dropping an earth rod into the ground as far as the water table (1.2m +/-) from FGL or 1.8m from FFL. Could I do this installation and what type of breaker would be best. I am indebited to you for this information.

The answer is quite simple.

The transformer on the pole puts out 220vac (+/-) and is center tapped.

Connecting from side-to-side from the transformer gives you the 220vac (+/-)
Connecting from either side to the center tap gives you 110vac (+/-)/

The center tap is ground, the ground is not used to obtain the 220vac.

I thought the center tap was neutral.
