We just stayed at the Royalton Splash resort and thought I would give some feedback. The guest profile was about 90% Dominicans so just a small handful of foreigners. They had a big conference on with 250 delegates so it was busy. I got the impression that everyone had paid a very low price and the conference had booked for buttons. I booked during Black Friday and got it for just US$66 per person per night so it was cheap as chips. And without sounding overly bitchy it was pretty clear that many of the guests didn't have a whole lot of money.
Although you were supposed to socially distance there was little evidence of it. There was a big party in a restaurant last night and everyone was dancing and packed in.
Although it wasn't full they were operating on skeleton staff to keep costs down and many facilities were closed. There were very long lines to get food because they had so many restaurants closed and herded everyone into one or two. I've attached a photo of the line to get a main course last night. Over 30 mins to get a plate of food. It took over an hour to check in and there were huge lines to check out. Very few trains to buzz you about so you had to walk and walk. And the quality of the food was also way down from normal.
The water park was excellent well run and very safe with a lot of life guards present.
The public areas were also not being cleaned as well as usual. A guest vomited right in the middle of the main terrace where they do the show last night and two hours later the vomit was still there. Everyone was stepping over it absolutely disgusting.
We all enjoyed it and got great value for money. I just question how I would have felt had I paid more and come on a long haul flight to stay there. I know that Royalton is obviously trying to do what it can to survive but I question what effect dumbing down the product to make it cheaper would have on their brand.
