September 19, 2022 is when hurricane Fiona landed in the eastern DR. News reports show some damage in Punta Cana/Bávaro area and in some towns such as Higüey. How are expats experiencing the hurricane?

Las Terrenas? Sosúa? Punta Cana? Santo Domingo? Santiago? Jarabacoa?

Cabarete
I haven't been into Cabarete yet, but here at my condo on the beach it's just been a cloudy, windy, rainy day. I don't even see any broken branches outside.

Not much damage in the Cibao, but one of the bridges in La Vega on the north bound (heading to Santiago) of the Autopista Duarte collapsed today.

PC got hit pretty bad IMO . Loss of power in most places …a lot of fallen power lines ….the flooding in the Bavaro area is bad ….had to drive through it …but kudos to CEPM for working to get the power restored…60% restored in less than 12 hours according to the local news…. lessons learnt from Maria , perhaps?

Sosua - Power out for a good portion of the day but back on at 10PM
Some limbs down and dead trees fell but over all just a decent rain storm

Santiago near HOMS. Nada, only power was gone for like 5 minutes at one time. A bit wind like two times. Rain but nothing extraordinary.

Las Terrenas
LAS TERRENAS - update:

"Hurricane Fiona has caused significant damage in the village and especially the edges of the beaches!
For the moment we are without electricity and therefore without Internet, the cut should last more than a week!!!
By the end of this week, I will give you more info..."

Las Terrenas
Dear God, what a loss for the parents. May she rest in peace.

Las Terrenas is unrecognizable after looking at the You Tube videos.

Our friends in LT are saying it's a complete disaster.

They don't expect electricity for another couple of weeks now. They live in Las Ballenas near the old Fisherman's Village.

A victim of Fiona is Auriely Esther. She graduated with honors and a few days before the storm was granted a scholarship due her excellent grades.

That was tragic. There should be more warnings about being out and about during a storm. So unnecessary. The DR hasn’t been good at this during storms. But I think there is less loss of life as in the past where you always heard of people drowning near rivers after a storm that didn’t seem to have been that bad.

In Las Terrenas some developments/hotel condominiums that did well are getting requests from others regarding rentals.
