Hi All,

It's been a while since I've posted. I'm still living in and loving Jarabacoa, Spanish is progressing very well and overall I'm loving life.

ANYWAY, I met a really nice girl a few weeks ago that I've set up a date with for Friday June 12th(think it's the 12th), but I don't know my way around SD for crap and I'd like to find a nice restaurant for the late afternoon early evening and a spot that has dancing on Friday night.

Last time I was there on Friday night, the lounges and bars were not having dancing. I don't know if I just happened to go to the wrong spots.

But I'd like to find a restaurant with a nice ambiance(Most important feature) and not over $40 a plate. She actually suggested McDonalds :p when I asked her where I should take her and as much as that endeared me to her I had something a little nicer in mind, lol.

So basically, any suggestions for a nice scenic restaurant preferably that is near a nice dance spot. I like to hit multiple locations on a 1st date, I will take her to the park or something earlier in the day before late afternoon.

Anyway, thanks for any help you can offer.

Nice catch, lol. July 12th.

If it was me, I'd hit La Plaza de Hispana and find a restaurant/menu that suits your culinary desires. The Hard Rock Cafe is a short walk, horse buggy or taxi ride from there. If I remember correctly, Meson de Luis and Meson de Bari were near Hostos y Calle Conde, both were good spots for dinner.

Beware of girls who think that a trip to "Mickey D's" is a great dining experience!
Aim Higher!
Check out "Hillbilly's Rules For dating Dominicans".
The Chinese food in the Cabanas is really very good.
Two Birds with, "Un Solo Toro".

I'd try to keep it simple but nice. A very nice restaurant on a first date would be kind of awkward for SD standards (unless she's a gold digger, which I choose to think she's not). $40 a plate, or $80 (around RD$ 3,500) a dinner falls within what I would call a moderately nice restaurant, so not likely the kind of place that offers dancing. I would suggest Bianco Urban Oasis in Av Sarasota. You get nice dinner, good music, laid back atmosphere and a great view from the rooftop of a 10-or-so-story building. Kind of brings conversation topics built in. Good luck.

A girl who wants to have a first date at McD... is that a girl you are looking for? Your wedding will be held at KFC?

Anyway You live in Jarabacoa and she is from SD.. why not let her come up with a nice place (besides Mcd). Its a good golddiggers test as when she wants to dine at a very expensive place you know enough.. but if she chooses a nice place.. she might be really into you! and she is the SD native not you!

If she thinks that Mcdonald is "fancy" place for a first date, she`d be as happy if you just took her to a picapollo. She might not even know how to use a knife and a fork!

Where did you meet her? How did you meet her? Does she speaks English? What does she do for a living? Who are her parents? Did you meet her family yet? Is there a age difference between you two?

you wanna "hit multiple spots"? i suggest you rent pearl of cinematography like "nailin' palin", "sopornos" or "shaving ryan's privates" for a quick crash course and then repeat the moves in any cabana.

Nothing wrong with a girl who doesnt know about the finer things in life. How old are you? Beware taking barrio chicas to a nice ristorante. They will be uncomfortable and if they dont know how to act will embarass you.

I would find out her dining experience prior to picking a place.

actually, she might have preferred the pica pollo, but she wanted to give the OP the impression that she is a bon vivant, and not your average barrio bunny, so she wanted to show that she can go upscale if the occasion demands it.

A friend of mine, "USA Gringo", brought a "Barrio Rat" to dinner with him to "Vesuvios", Malecon .
Pretty "Up Scale", and was the place for rich Dominicans to see, and Be Seen.
There was absolutely nothing on the entire menu that she wanted to eat!!!
She even asked the waiter if they had "Locrio", chicken, or other meat, mixed with dry rice,.
She settled on "Chicken Soup", then couldn't eat it when it arrived.
The night wasn't a total loss, at least for me!
I got her phone #, and a nice "FREN" for many years to COME!

"Cabana", "Pica Pollo, Par de Cervesas" is my "Go To" first date!

Sad but true, we've been in Vesuvios and seen the same thing. Same at the breakfast buffets at nice hotels, they look like a deer in headlights. You have to feel a bit sorry for them, they're so out of their element.
