Agricultural Minister Limber Cruz announced the used goods market known as “Mercado de Pulgas” open at the grounds of the Merca Santo Domingo, in northern Santo Domingo. For many years, the market had operated at Luperón and 30 de Mayo avenues, but it had grown too much and brought chaos to the city area.

The market was shutdown in March due to the pandemic and has not been allowed to open in the area. Businesses and residents of the site near Isabel Aguiar street also protested against it relocating there.

The government now has authorized the temporary relocation for 8 to 12 months at the site. Hundreds of merchants put up their stalls on Sunday. The vendors primarily sell used clothing imported from Haiti.
