Francelys Furcal to await trial for murder of Chinese boss in jail

The Permanent Attention Office of the National District ordered Francelys Maria Furcal Rodriguez to await her trial for the murder of Chinese merchant Zongxin Chen in Najayo Jail. She was served a three-month preventive custody order by the National District court.

The Public Ministry accuses Furcal Rodriguez of voluntary manslaughter and use of a false passport – crimes covered in articles 295, 304, 153 and 154 of the Dominican Penal Code.

She is also accused of violating articles 83 and 86 of Law 631-16 on the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.

She is known to have killed her boss, the Chinese national, of a knife stab in the abdomen. A surveillance video shows she immediately sought help for the victim and then fled.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The trial of Francelys María Furcal Rodríguez, accused of murdering Chinese businessman Zongxin Chen, will be held under the direction of judges Keila Pérez Santana, Elías Santini and Arisleyda Méndez. The case dates back to an incident that occurred on April 21, 2021 in the Gregorio Luperón neighborhood in the capital.

The accused faces charges of voluntary homicide, a crime that in Dominican law can carry up to 30 years in prison when linked to another crime. The Public Prosecutor's Office maintains that the altercation between Furcal and Chen ended with the death of the merchant at the Z&C Hardware Store, located on Juan Pablo Duarte Avenue.

The incident was captured on video, where Furcal, 30, and Chen, 34, are seen arguing while working together. In the footage, Furcal throws a receipt book at the counter, prompting Chen to hit her with the same book. Furcal, furious, throws the book back, prompting Chen to kick her. After the attack, Furcal flees the scene, while the store's security cameras record the events.

The defendant, who worked at the deceased's hardware store, left the country on June 22, 2022, two months after the incident, and her whereabouts were unknown to her family. She was identified in Colombia, where she arrived at the José María Córdova airport.

In her first court appearance, Judge Rigoberto Sena, of the Permanent Attention Office, ordered preventive detention against her, which she is serving at the Najayo Women's Penitentiary Center.

COURT SENTENCES WOMAN TO 5 YEARS FOR DEATH OF CHINESE MAN
The Fourth Collegiate Court of the National District sentenced Francelys María Furcal Rodríguez, accused of the murder of Chinese businessman Zongxin Chen, to 5 years in prison on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on April 21, 2022 in a hardware store in the Gregorio Luperón district of the National District.
WithRemember that Furcal, after committing the crime, fled the country and had to be extradited to the Dominican Republic to face the charges against him.
The sentence must be served by the convicted person at the Najayo Women's Correction and Rehabilitation Center.

A famous (former) DR1 member was sentenced to 10 yrs @ Rafey Women's C.I. here in Santiago for murder. From what I'm told, it wasn't too bad.

Prisons operate way different down here. If you've got a little change in your pocket, you're good.

If it were up to me Ms. Furcal wouldn't be spending a day in jail. Dude bit off more than he was ready for. Should have kept his hands (feet) to himself. End of story.
