The Permanent Attention Office of the National District ordered Francelys Maria Furcal Rodriguez to await her trial for the murder of Chinese merchant Zongxin Chen in Najayo Jail. She was served a three-month preventive custody order by the National District court.
The Public Ministry accuses Furcal Rodriguez of voluntary manslaughter and use of a false passport – crimes covered in articles 295, 304, 153 and 154 of the Dominican Penal Code.
She is also accused of violating articles 83 and 86 of Law 631-16 on the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
She is known to have killed her boss, the Chinese national, of a knife stab in the abdomen. A surveillance video shows she immediately sought help for the victim and then fled.
The judiciary established that the next day, trying to evade Dominican justice and using fraudulent maneuvers, the accused Francelys María Furcal Rodríguez left through the Punta Cana International Airport, bound for Medellín-Colombia and from there to Brazil, using a passport in the name of Denny María Rodríguez Hierro.
Then, she continued her journey to Sao Paulo, Brazil, using the identity of Colombian Rina Vásquez Sarabia.
The accused evaded the immigration systems and continued towards Qatar in the United Arab Emirates and from there she boarded a flight to reach France, with Spain as the final destination.
Her defense in the case argues that Furcal Rodriguez acted in self-defense and seeks the case to be denominated as one of involuntary murder. The woman says she fears for her life.
Her lawyer, Thomas Castro, says they will appeal the order to await the trial in jail as the life of his client is at risk. Castro is reported an uncle of the unnamed spouse of the accused.
The reporting on the trial has yet to come up with the answer to who funded and arranged the extraordinarily complex and fast escape of Francelys Furcal after the incident.
